Well I agree that we must move forward. However we cannot simply wish what happened away. We need to reassure ODM supporters that the nominations despite the anomalies really reflected the situation on the ground. WE need to keep united at this very trying time and make sure that we do not lose the support we have. I know there are strategists working on this at Orange House so I guess this is their headache.
THere are some people that are gloating at what has hit us but we need to bounce back hard. We are down but dare I say not yet out.
ODM has proved that they are not any different from other parties. This will cost ODM heavily. You heard people from one of ODM’s strongholds say they will withdraw their support for Raila. Believe me you it is real and more people are dispirited. I don’t want to imagine how the mess will be cleared but i think we have started disappointing Kenyans even before we form the government. If this disquiet continues until December 27, the hard truth is that we can forget the big cake or we will get it with a lot of holes in it. If these people were to be disqualified on the grounds that they were moles, why didn’t we just give them the certificates and win them over by talking to them even if it was so how late did we know this to call them and tell them that we are disqualifying them on those grounds.
I surely doubt if all the disgraced people will find a place in their heart to forgive ODM election board. If the argument is that it was in all parties then you are wrong. Most Kenyans were looking up to ODM to lead the way. If it is possible to reverse some decisions,please do especially Makadara. Don’t be surprised when you see further drop in opinion poll.

If the fight for the party ticket was this vicious then ODM is the party to be beat in this coming elections. My only wish was that it was handled with alot of profesionalism as was promised. That not withstanding hii ndio wakati wa kulala salama we need to keep the tempo and rejuvenate the excitement that this party is known for. This should be done focusing on the issues that this elections will be won on. There is an urgent need to consolidate the support that we have won over the years.
There are issues that currently baffle me. Why can’t Midiwo, Kibunguchy, Odoyo and others sacrifice their seats for the better good. Let me not talk about Orengo because he came third. This thing is doing us sooo much damage. There are people here talking about leaving ODM. THat is their choice however.
The important thing to do now is to absolve our President from any wrong doing. He did not play any part in the nominations and therefore is not to blame. This is the message we should send out to all our supporters. In some areas like N. Eastern and parts of Nyanza – Kisii, Coast and North Rift people should vote in their preferred candidate where they feel agrieved but vote Raila as President (this should be done quietly). We are still winning guys. I know from reliable sourcs that Raila was at the last poll up to 55% with PNU at 31%. This may have gone down with the nominations but don’t give up please. In fact now is the time to be stronger for our President. He needs all the support he can get.
Agent 4change, I do not think we have crossed the bridge yet. you may be sitting in an office, not knowing for sure what is happening on the ground. A lot of mischief is still going on. How can we move a head when in my Gwassi constituency a candidate has been declared by votes froim his clan only? As I write now we do not know who our councillors will be for votes from over 3/4 of the region remain untallied! Are they being chosen for us from Orange Hse.
Instead of telling us to move a head, you should be telling us what is being done to correct this shameful situation.
‘Failed’ contestants are now insulting Raila as a person while those responsible for the mess sit tight with the 2M nomination budget thoroughly underused.
Asking us to move on is asking us to forget. It is not easy to just forget. Downplaying the issue is equally very dangerous. We want to move on…..but not before all the mischief is sorted out. I say so for as the ordinary Kenyan is busy building, Orange Hse is busy destroying.
I think the real test can begin now. THose with the nomination certificates should immediately start campaign in their constituencies, i.e if they won fair and square move on with ODM campaigns, those with suspect nominations should be seen to work 24/7 to win the confidence of their rivals and translate this back to all round ODM support. Anyone not carrying their weight should be re-evaluated. If a weak candidate was handed papers either by error or rigging it should not be hard to detect due to fierce resistance. Let those candidates fight to get not only their votes but most importantly votes for Raila. SOme of those cheating are under the impression that ODM is getting votes on a silver platter but are about to experience baptism by fire. THey will be easy to detect, unable to hold rallies on their own and preferering to hang on the tails of other ODM luminaries. Pentagon must issue a basic minimum campaign requirement for all its candidates to win back all votes complete with benchmarks for rallies, frequency, message etc. THey have the certificate, let them get out and earn votes. And after the elections, any appointments should be made to reflect ODM performance by constituency. Collussion to deny worthy candidates must be disciplined after the elections. THat aside, pentagon need to revamp their campaigns and hit those hard hit trouble spots and emphasize the message that one cannot blame the headmaster or entire school if the bursar turns out to be a thief. Best approach is to discipline the bursar and ensure good performance of the school, poor analogy but we need to re-focus on the issue of removing Kibaki from the presidency. It is therefore not right for voters to take out their frustration on the pentagon and other ODM membership. and must give commitment to address the nomination fiasco at the first available opportunity after elections.
Ladies and gentlemen
I wholly understand your frustrations and disappointments. However, as someone who has been a candidate before (2002), I can tell you quite frankly that despite all the anomalies, the nominations went fairly well, and the people’s choices by and large went through and got the tickets.
Blaming Justice Kwach is easy, but the reality is that he did a splendid job in the circumstances. Remember that even ECK does make serious blunders with election budgets of Shs 5 billion compared to our paltry Shs 200 million (just 4% of ECK’s budget). You must also bear in mind that some dishonest Returning Officers were deliberately filing different results from the ones they had announced at the various tallying stations – this was mainly due to their biases and maybe after being influenced by bribes. You honestly did not expect Kwach and team to immediately know that some of the results that were being handed to his team were manipulated. It had to take some time, after the appeals, to investigate and confirm the real situation. And guys, let’s grant Kwach, his Board has gone ahead and investigated most if not all of those cases, and where there were genuine misrepresentations, appropriate reinstatement of results have already been done. I honestly think this retired appellate Judge and his team have done their very best in the circumstances.
I have been a candidate and I can tell you with authority that some of the people you see vying for positions are probably worse than the devil himself – they will go to any length to fix the elections in their favour, whether by violence, intimidation, bribery, rigging or disenfranchising their opponents’ strongholds. In such a situation even when you try to do a good job like I think Kwach did, some forces just do not let you succeed with flying colours. Can you imagine that in Ugenya, there were at least two candidates who scored zero (yes ‘0’) after violence made it impossible even for them to get to vote for themselves.
As for The People’s President and the pentagon, I just wish we could be all sincere and leave them out of this blame game. Honestly, they promised not to interfere, and they have not interfered. I can assure you that there are some heavyweights (who have been very close to him) who lost but would not have lost if he wanted to interfere. As much as it is easy to say ‘the buck stops with him’ there are some things you just can stop from happening, and you can’t be blamed for them therefore. Judas was Jesus’ disciple and therefore should have been very holy, but when he committed that sin, I have not heard any christian or theologian blame Jesus for Judas’ indiscretions. Let’s be fair and not muddle the name of our candidate in matters that you had agreed with him that he should keep off from.
Granted, we could have done better, but believe me, we have not faired that badly either. Time will show that.
Let’s now concentrate our energies on consolidating support for our candidate and ODM to ensure a landslide on 27 December 2007.
hi.ODMers.indeed its a trying moment that we are going through.but without exception am taking issue with ODM election board.what happened yesterday at both the orange and rainbow houses wouldnt have occurred if the nomination was properly organised.i fail to understand how,with all the millions of shillings collected from the aspirants,the board could not put a proper election procedure in place!it is really painful given that some aspirants had even quit their plum jobs in the hope of getting leadership thru ODM only for their wishes to be taken away through chaos and underhand boardroom decisions.
Our victory is now at stake,if the defections that are currently taking place is anything to go by.
we dont need our supporters to turn violent so that their right is given back to them.
i even understand that the polling official and clerks who presided the nominations are yet to be paid.this group is enough to taint our image.they should be paid as a matter of urgency before things are blown out of proportion and opponents get political mileage from it.
on the positive,i must commend our pentagon members for staying away from the nomination issue.atleast they dont stand blamed for all that took place.
Before we embark on campaign.i suggest that,since ODM and NARC are one thing at the moment,those aspirants who were wrongly denied the ODM certificates,should be given Narc certificates so that we consolidate the votes for Raila.otherwise if we just leave the to go to the Miracle Orange.we are just adding votes for him.

I can’t agree with you more Stephen. Let us not villify Raila because he has really played it well. He has not interfered with anything so where is he to blame? If anything we should come out strongly in his defence. HE is not the problem here. If there are still issues let them be sorted out quick though.
Take Raila and sell him still. ODM has proved it is indeed the party to beat. To all the defectors I say good luck with your campaigns. You are already a bunch of losers (and I say this to all who lost fairly) so it does not matter where you go. You will lose again, and again and again.

I must admit the nomination exercise was both tough and somehow disturbing. However, we can’t cry over spilled milk, we must move with alacrity and speed and win! Our goal is not to have 150 MPs, our goal is to have Raila win even if he as 10 MPS alone. Once we get the Presidency, you don’t need to arm-twist anyone to toe the line. I’m from Nairobi but I’m happy that in Luo Nyanza, the nomination was quite fair particularly when Okundi and Odoyo were disqualified and also Chaacha Mwita. All these men are noble and ODM die-hards but we need to look at the bigger picture so it was good that they were denied the tickets. Others continue to make some noises but we need to go on.
Please note that PANUA didn’t do any primaries and where they did, the old guard was swept aside and replaced. ODM has already faced this test and somehow tested the waters early rather than doing it on Dec.27 and lose as will happen to PANUA. The problem in ODM is that those who lost in its strongholds know that no other party stands a chance and that’s why they are crying but in PANUA land, they have competing parochial parties, so the losers and the winners are still on the neck of each other. Note that this serves us well; because while PANUA fielded many nominees in every constituency, ODM has one. So PANUA candidates will be fighting each other while we concentrate on the national campaign.
The Pentagon should now visit Luo Nyanza and clear the air and settle the remaining issues. It is here that we need a turn out of 95%. What’s the point of us from other provinces walking day and night for Raila while Nyanza may experience voter apathy? Please avoid this! I hope you are listening. There are many seats ODM may not win but Raila will win in the Presidential vote. If need be we can be emailed and we will tell you why and where. We don’t need money or praise, it is our duty to tell ODM where we can win and the reasons for free in order to have Raila as President. That’s our reward; a President Raila.
Attention should be given to Kisii, 100% attention. Since ODM has money, it should be used to assist ODM nominees in Kisii land and other hostile areas such as Meru which is not purely pro-Kibaki and outposts in Rift Valley. We need to hit the road and move with speed. Please use Luo, Luhya, and Kalenjin ODM nominees extensively since they are in safe areas so that they go campaigning for fellow ODM nominees and Raila. We have no time and infighting must end. Guard your mouth and secrets and hit at the enemy where it hurts. yap ERIC you know what they say in kamukunji that the pentagons were involved in giving the ticket to yussuf ibrahim(JONNY) NAJIB BALALA and RAILA were involved coz ate the YUSSUF HASSAN ABDI won but they give JONNY directe nomination of which i see is just a nonsence coz i believe that the pentagons kept their promise of not interfering the nomination of what they infact did.

I liked the above suggestion by one of the bloggers that the aggrieved ODMers should run on Narc with the blessing of the party if they feel they are popular enough( is there time?).
ODM needs to visit Nyanza now , already most people will be happy bcoz some nominations were overturned.
ODM could also speak to the Kisumu rural and Ugenya aspirants as these two gentlemen Prof Nyongo and James Orengo are really essential in this battle.

We need to do some damage control measures, the pentagon must hit the ground immeadiately especiallly in Rift Valley and Nyanza Provinces. Those who won in the nominations must be allowed to run on the ticket of the party. As you may notice our opponenets are not as wounded as we are and they are rejoicing, areas especially Kissiland and North rift should be brought back immeadiately. Otherwise all is not lost i beleive the ODM pentagon is Equal to the task.
Those for the Peoples’ President: It is a difficult moment for ODM. Verily, this was expected. Never before had their been a popular party like ODM. Never before had a party conducted nomination with aspirants of such magnitude. I personally predicted the situation could be worse.
Nonetheless, Kwach takes responsibility. We need not chase him away. But if he sends in his resignation and the same publicised, the party will regain. “In the interest of the party and the desire to win this elections…….I tender my resignation in order to consolidate the strength of our party….” something like that. People will see the seriousness of the matter and Raila will continue topping polls.
The second thing to do is to have Raila give a televised statement touching on the emotions of Kenyans. He should present the good face of him and what ODm will look like in future under his leadership. He should come out as one not enslaved with internal party politics and win over the national outlook of a president. This works.
As suggested, Pentagon should hit the road. Kibaki is taking advantage already and he should be stopped. Follow him behind and assure Kenyans that the party is as strong as ever.
ODM, you should know how people desire change. I agree that NARC can issue certificates to other candidates who think they are eligible to compete but ensure they support Raila.
Move on.
I have now cooled down but it is quite clear that ODM supporters are not blind followers as it has been claimed by our detractors. They question, complain and protest when they feel their leaders have not done the right thing. It is unmistakable message we are sending to the pentagon of what to expect once they get there- They must honour all the promises, Period!
Let us now refocus and take Kibaki head on. PNU is still in a terminal crisis and I believe ODM will soon be on the roll.
COAST AND RIFT VALLEY MUST BE THE FIRST DESTINATION FOR THE PENTAGON. Then Western and Nyanza.

Everything has pros and cons.The large number of candidates raised funds but caused a huge fallout. Learn from mistakes and do some damage control.
The protests look ugly, but the flip side it shows people expect performance and not lip service. Also on the bright side – re- Nyanza where PNU has used all sorts of language including the idea that pple are colonised- this is a good thing. The people are ready to provide checks and balances.
Learn and make plans to move, do not remain stuck in the mud, this is indeed a marathon and the home stretch is still along way off!

Just to add on my piece above, I would urge you to evaluate the content of the protests. There is definitely a lot of it that is not genuine. Politicians never accept defeat – they are always rigged out. I am saying that as a politician myself. Some may even be working for PNU and just taking advantage of the apparent democracy in ODM to drag the matter.
Like for Gem mentioned by Charles, I have just been conversing with a gentleman of very high integrity who has confirmed that indeed Jakoyo Midiwo won the nominations genuinely. It is only the treachery involved that made his opponents announce to the press that he had lost, and swapped his score with another person’s for the press. However, in reality, the genuine results that were certified at the tallying centre in Gem and announced publicly to Gem people is that Jakoyo won. The rest is just politics of losers.
I mean, you’ve seen even former MPs who are known to be very close to Raila complaining after being beaten – the excuse, ‘I have been unfairly rigged out’; but you ask, by who?? Voters do not rig people out, they vote them out when they fail the test. Just like the way we want to vote Kibaki out come Dec 27th.
Overall, I am satified after getting appropriate feedback from the ground and from the ODM head office. Let us now focus our energies in strengthening ODM for a landslide.

I urge all those who love ODM to consider closing this chapter of nomination debable but all the same, we must impress on ODM election board on the need to set the record straight on several contravertial nomination cases so that this matter could be put to rest.
In fact, I am worried if some of these cases were not settled amicably. For instance Ballack Muluka who was reported to have won the Kwisero seat but his name disappeared in the final list will use the platform provided to him by the Sartuday Standard to wage war on ODM.
Otherwise, I still believe this was the lowest point for the ODM. You never become an ultimate winner by never falling but by rising up every time you fall.
kindly ODM Supporters, dont indulge Hon Raila’s name on this, there was a board co-ordinating all these. mark you they were over 1500 candindates. but with only 210. our opponents are also taking that advantage by hiring goons to stone orange house and narc house.
there was a slight problem but not as major as people put it. but always in a house there can be a problem, just try always to solve it indoors and have a solution, even in other parties,there was some problems but nobody was shouting the name of kibaki or kalonzo,why only our losers complaining with Raila’s name.

I have just received photocopies of a letter, and a cheque paid to one of the aspirants in Kisumu Rural by PNU director, Lee Karuri and paid through Equity. It is authentic. The idea is to forment the chaos in Kisumu and other parts of our strongholds and create apathy. The amount involved here is Shs 25 million. Knowing the level of poverty down there, I can assure you that’s a lot of money. I wish I could attach the documents here. All the same, I will find a way to place them on some shared site and draw your attention to it as soon as possible.
PNU and Moi have ganged up to escalate trivial issues and spoil our votes. We must be vigilant. Be very careful with what you see as out there as protests. Those are not friends of the party. They are working with our enemies.

I would like to put the nomination process in Gem straight. My mum a die hard supporter of Rachier and his poll station agent in Muhanda primary school told me that Jakoyo Midiwo infact was the real winner. She participated in vote counting and witnessed it. Kenyan politicians are never voted out, they are always rigged out.

I presume that the wisdom holding nomination at the very last day of ECK deadline was prevent loosers jumping to opponent camps and minimize their (enemy) harvest from the fallouts. Nonetheless this is exactly what has happened. With benefit of hindsight , ODM should have be fearless to conduct grassroot root primaries well within ample time. I wish it was a stage by stage approach where a particular day is dedicated for nominations in particular region/province and that exercise is carried within a week time frame.
For one, logistic quagmire would have been solved if resources & supervision were to be forcused on a reduced area on a given nomination day. This in turn would have assured a relatively succesful election with minimal dispute of the results. Furthermore the a timely nomination would have provided room to settle outcome grievances, the essence so dearly missed in the just concluded exercise. If our nominations were done free & fair, where the will of our supporters was well reflected & enough time was taken to counter-check any disputes, we wouldn’t have to bother if the loosers in all our due process defects to rival camp. They would have simply remained loosers.
At the moment I believe we’ve lost some personalities whom we could have accomodated otherwise.
All said and done, I think we’ve emerged strong & homogeneous compared to PNU and this is a plus. Pls pentagon consider Hon Musa Sirma for nominated MP slot after elections. He didn’t jump ship like other colleagues in Eldoret inspite that he lost narrowly. We should respect the Eldama Ravine verdict, But Sirma is our “kirgit” in the Turgen command post.

As a supporter of ODM and what it stands for, it was depressing to see what happened at the “primaries”. But as has been said, now is not the time for blame or to pick up tail and run. Rather it is time for our politics and electoral processes to grow up. What I mean by this is that we need to build strong party structures of committed members who won’t jump ship when things don’t go their way, but will stick it out in the party ranks to build a strong party that will be in power longer than one term. Much can be done in a nation outside the precincts of parliament and that is the kind of support Raila and the Pentagon need. He and the Pentagon and the other officials do not need infighting. To echo what Baijo M. Lorowu said,

Have you guys noticed something, chaos or perceived chaos in ODM areas are being magnified yet PNU had similar chaos and no one is highlighting them. This is depicting them as cleaner than ODM, we need a venom for this. Also in ODMK, there were no demand for that ticket and therefore the guys there just sat waiting for fall outs and then claim that they are more democratic. We need another venom for this. In business the higher you risk the higher the benefit or loss which ever falls on your side. ODM had very high demand with some areas having as high as 42 candidates and yet only one seat, kwani no body expected to loose. There could only be one winner and better still if those candidates really believed in ODM then they should not defect, those who do then do not believe in the dream. But all the same, the Pentagon and all should get to the ground and reassure supporters that all is well despite the hitches which are expected. Give explanations that will win the supporters back and then we shall be back on track and focus on real winning formular. Kuddos ODM, alluta continua.
According to me I dont see why people are so disappointed with the outcome of the nomination yet we are talking about change,for example let me ask surely do you want some like Koech who lost to come back? Whichever way one looks at it, there is no way ODM could have pulled off a clean nomination exercise while being at the mercy of an antagonistic government machinery.
Kenyan politicians are a rare breed of politicians. It is them first, them second, and them last. Their interests come first, second, and last. Policies and manisfestos and the interests of their people only appear on the radar after the politician has been taken care of.
I have done a bit of unscientific polling and I have come to the conclusion that the stain on the nominations did not Raila so much. ODM supporters should not worry about the “Kibaki Tena” signs that appeared in some parts of Nyanza. Those signs were occassioned by anger that is easily calmable.
The fight for the presidency should now be taken one step higher. The tragedy and reality of Kenyan politics is that one who is not from Central Province will never get any votes from the Central Province electorate if one of their won is running.
I sincerely hope and pray that this will be a thing of the past when the new government takes over in Kenya. The fight for the presidency should be moved from policies and manifestos to that of GK versus NGK. The fight should be tilted towards the weaknesses, discriminations, outright ethnocentrism of Mwai Kibaki. The theme of Raila’s campaign now should be “The Third and Final Liberation”. This is where he should anchor his campaign.
In 2002, Kenyans from every tribe and race voted for Kibaki. He got 3.8 million votes from all Kenyans. Immediately Kibaki took over, the only Kenyans he could see were his Mount Kenya kin. Kibaki showed his contempt for other Kenyan tribes when he appointed his friends, many of whom are past retirement age to the best civil service positions.
Kibaki decreed that his people have to get the best in education so the Ministry of Education had to be reserved for his people (Minister, Assistant Ministers, and Permanent Secretary who is past retirement age). Kibaki also decreed that inquisitive “aliens aka non-kin” had to be kept out of the Ministry of Finance so that his people can “borrow” as much money as they need to invest in the Nairobi Stock Exchange and buy other properties anywhere in this world. They formed an association called MEGA, a successor to GEMA. The registration certificate may have been conveniently hidden until after the general elections.
The Ministry of Finance was therefore declared a reserved ministry, Minister, Assistant Miniters, Permanent Secretary, and Central Bank governor. To make sure that the Mungiki issue is kept a mystery and that any mercenaries imported were well-protected from the public, the Office of the President’s Provincial Administration and Internal Security had to be reserved for his people (Minister, Assistant Minister, and Permanent Secretary).
As if Kibaki had not shown enough disdain for non-kin Kenyans, he cheated them with fractional ministries. He appointed Shitanda to a 0.25 of a minisry, called the Ministry of Housing with almost nil budget, Mr. Shakombo to a 0.25 ministry called the Ministry of Heritage, Dr. Kuti, a whole medical doctor, to a 0.25 ministry called the Ministry of Youth Affairs, John Munyes to a 0.25 of a ministry called the Ministry of Special Programmes, and finally Gideon Konchelah to a 0.25 ministry called the Ministry of Immigration.
Some of these fractional ministries could be as close to full ministries as possible if the individuals appointed as ministers were allowed to oversee policy and budget issues but the truth of the matter is that other individuals are controling policy and budget. The open disdain of Kibaki government for non-kin Kenyans was shown early during his presidency when
My question is this. Why is it that none of the individuals appointed to fractional ministries are from Kibaki’s kin. Why is there no Kikuyu, Meru, or Embu appointed to a fractional and less than half of a ministry? Is this not a naked enslavement.
South Africa has now come out of apartheid. All African countries are now independent. Why are we enslaving one another in Kenya. No manifestos, no economic growth means anything until all Kenyans are treated equal.
During the reading of this year’s Budget, I witnessed one of the most naked hypocricies depicted in public in recent btimes in Kenya. The Minister, Amos Kimunya, who was reading the Budget had invited an Economics whiz kid to be his guest in parliament. That, in itself, was commendable. I thought to myself that if this brilliant Kalenjin kid was to complete his studies while the Kibaki government was around and then try to serve his country as Finance Minister, Finance Assistant Minister, or Governor of Central Bank, he will have no chance.
When this brilliant and patriotic kid puts in his application, it wil be stamped, “UNQUALIFIED. WRONG TRIBE”. It happened to Dr. Tangus. It happened to Henry Obwocha. It happened to Mrs. Mwatela. Ordinary Kenyans have no problem with one another. It is greedy and ethnocentric governments such as Kibaki’s that are not only turning Kenyans against one another but are also colonising sections of Kenyan populations.
Raila has talked about the third and final liberation. I would like to see that final liberation free Kenyans, whoever they are and wherever they live, from the yoke of ethnic colonisation and enslavement that we see aplenty under Kibaki.
There are many obvious cases of Kibaki showing greed and disdain for non-kin Kenyans. How many instances of discrimination and enslavement that are below the surface and we do not get to see them. In the early stages of his presidency, Kibaki forgave loans owed by Coffee farmers from the Mount Kenya region and completely forgot about sugarcane, Tea, and other cash crops farmers from other parts of Kenya. Why?
The Catholic Church leadership should know that they can assume high moral ground but if they is hypocricy in their teachings, sermons, and attitudes, God sees them. In all His teachings, Jesus Christ never fail to tell hypocrites “Woe to you hypocrites”. If the Catholic Church Cardinal denounces the pact between Raila and Muslims, he should also not forget to denounce the pacts and contracts between Kibaki and billion-shilling thieves, Kibaki and mercenaries, and between Kibaki and Mungiki. Ortherwise, if Jesus was around, He would tell the Catholic Church leadership,
“You, hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, then you can see clearly enough to take the speck out of your brother’s eye”

A lot of very mature and encouraging sentiments and arguments listed above. I am proud to be associated with ODM family. Its evident that PNU infiltrated the ODM nominations to cause as much anarchy and mayhem as possible adn give it maximum publicity with the aim of thoroughly disenfranchising voters and candidates resulting in either massive apathy and or defections while at the same time creating a diversionary smoke-screen away from their own chaotic mess riddled with blatant dictatorship. Once again ODM has withstood this test.
As far as propaganda goes, I think its time to turn the tide around, so far we have thwarted attempts by the PNU propaganda machine that spreads lies and deceit by countering with truths on the current govt failures. I think we need to use the correct avenue, these jokers may think its a big game but slander is an offence and charges can and should be brought through the judicial system no matter how inept it may be right now. We need to trace the originators and propagators of slander and present it to relevant authorities and advocates (we have enough of these in ODM) with the aim of taking these people to court. Enough is enough. Pentagon should issue notice and approach the Police commissioner with the untruths and demand an investigation. Its quite simple really, in the event of an ODM win, catching these guys after that will then not be witch-hunting but the due process of the law. If what Stephen says above is true ,then Lee Karuri has directly disobeyed Kibakis directive not bribe voters and as head of the architectural body, leaves a lot to be said about professional bodies in the country. These are such people who will cry foul when ODM takes over leadership and kicks them out.
Kwach can redeem the entire elections board by following up on these leads and help in instituting investigations and convictions of these PNU infiltrators.
For the last few days I have been very distraught at the nomination exercise but it did not take me long to realise that ODM and any other party for that matter did not have the machinery to conduct proper elections of such a magnitude. The election board clearly was inexperienced and maybe learnt a lesson or two out of the exercise. PNU had also a similar problem though clearly not highlighted by the press who have been working on ODM only. I hear from the grapevine that PNU paid the ECK 2 billion to conduct their nominations and still were not able to conduct proper nominations. Then clearly ODM with all the contestants were seriously not prepared.
I believe Kivuitu actually confessed that on his first election he had done many a horrible mistakes but the 10 years or so of experience has helped him to streamline our election process. I believe if ODM develops as a party then we are headed for a greater future especially in ensuring people elect their choice of leaders.
Many comments have been made on how politicians are greedy and dont care for the electorate. I believe this is true. I also see a situation where Raila is caught in a catch 22 situation whereby he has people who support him and purport to be leaders but do not share his vision. Being the strong leader he is, I am confident he will help us change our political system. We need not forget the ultimate goal which is to steer our country to greater heights, socially, politically and economically.
I believe we have the person to be the first step to this magnificent Kenya. That man is Raila Amolo Odinga. For all those who have the shared dream and vision, the war then has just started and let us not relent on mere obstacles but keep our sights on the Kenyan Dream.

the nomination debacle aside, this idea of a homestretch is naive. I have been following the news media and for the past four to five days you have not campaigned anywhere. Are you people serious about winning this upcoming election? What is the point of giving us an email address for private concerns when there is no feedback forthcoming?!! Why is your campaign being determined by outside forces? You don’t talk about your policies but rather you are on the defensive on the issues of the MOU with our Muslim brothers and sisters. I would like to know who the campaign manager and campaign spokesperson are. The way things are going anyone with media outlet can purport to speak for you. You guys at the secretariat need to start getting serious about this election, you need someone to steer the parliamentary candidates campaign so ODM can control the next house, this individual should be on the ground with the candidates and put the machinery in place to secure their chances of winning the upcoming polls. Secondly, GET A CAMPAIGN MANAGER, AND SPOKESPERSON take back the momentum, you have lost it in case no one noticed. START talking about how you will finance all the pledges you have made. And finally could you make the manifesto available in this forum so we can spread it to other people, since you guys are inept at doing your job!!!!
Ken, while I agree with you on some salient points, e.g. ODM probably needs a spokesperson, I beg to differ on your point about the campaigns. Campagning in the last 4 to 5 days would have been turntamount to at best arrogance and at worst political idiotism. ODM first needed to put its house in order with regards to the nominations and the subsequent unrests. This they have now done, going by what we see in the media. You don’t go campaigning while you have serious unsolved issues.
As for ODM policies, which ones in particular? I don’t think any other party has spoken about its policies such as ODM.
I stand corrected but an outfit like an ODM definitely has a campaign manager. I like the idea about someone steering the parliamentary candidates campaign though.
I believe ODM is about to embark on a massive campaign like never seen before in the next few coming days.

Thanks Otieno for the info. I highly doubt that the Raila campaign has a campaign manager and spokesperson. My reasons are supported by the fact that when attacked, there is no one from the campaign that rebuts these accusations, secondly theres no one out there that issues press releases. What I would like to see is someone who is out there everyday providing updates and explaining the policies in both Swahili and English, everyday. Be out there on the radio shows and TV shows. The best way to win is to be on the offense. I don’t dispute that ODM has good policies, it is however one thing to have good policies, but quite another to have your policies understood by everyone. For example the provision for free education up to secondary level is good on paper, what I would like to see is an explanation on how this is going to be paid for and how much this will translate in the form of government revenue. The same should apply for health care provision.
Hi ODMers. Looks like we have more or less weathered the storm and things will move on. I like the personal touch ODM gave jana admitting that the nominations execise was not all that smooth. This is “damage control” at its best. I would still urge the losers to continue to stick with ODM. It is indeed the party of the future.
It is now chaos like never before at PNU with some parties feeling cheated by KANU. And by the way you ain’t seen nothing yet. That outfit is likely to disintegrate terribly. But that is their problem.
I think Raila did a splendid job on “On the Spot” yesterday. And the advert with REAL Change for ALL Kenyans caught many an eye. One person told me that is one of the best adverts he has seen. Short and to the point. Thank you secretariat for listening to our view on how to strategize. I know it will work. Let us market the ODM brand because we are a brand. Other parties are still at the value addition stage. By the time they are through with that we will have sold all our stock.
Please visit KJ – It is the right thing to do and will also boost his morale. Moreover it will portay the leadership of our party as caring which indeed you are. And remember him too. He is the face of the youth to a large extent. Support his and other youths campaign the best way you can. The same goes for all the women candidates in our party. Now that the primaries are behind us, we need to roll out the campaign countrywide with one message; kenya is one big family in need of a good president. we deserve one and we will surely elect one. hopefully we will celebrate come January 2nd and 3rd.
A lot of leaders have fallen by the wayside and as the vice said, we need to incorporate these people into the campaigns to ensure victory. I would probably love to see Chaacha Mwita as the ODM spokesperson, given his long service in the media industry and his prowess in atriculating the ideals and aspirations of the party. this
It is true mistakes were made. People who have made major investments in the nominatihons lost and certainly many egos suffered. The pains may not go away easily but a cure can be found.
I think the pentagons action to meet the aspirants is a step in the right direction. I also think it is in order to have some people go to NARC.

I agree with Stephen… I am wondering aloud just how we expected to ‘appropriately’ nominate over 2000 contestannts vying for some 200 seats. This was a tough job. I had some hard feelings for Kwach initially, and I would agree with Agent4change that we have crossed that bridge.
People let us not reason with emotions because of this nominations thing. I thought it would be worse than what we saw, but so far, so good for me. Any nomination always have such hitches, you will agree with me on this one.
We have a bigger issue at hand right now and we should now have our eyes on December 27th. Let us channel all our energy towards this particular day, lets give it one last shot, and believe me, the other terms following this one will be ours for the taking.
We need to focus on the bigger bigger picture right now. We cannot let small isuues by the roadside hinder us from reaching our main goal.
The ground is still orange, whichever way you look at it. We cannot start acting like we have lost or that we are being defeated. We have to have our spirits high, re-energised like never before, this is the only way we will be motivated to keep on moving forward. We cannot get discouraged now, no and not today. The interview on NTV was splendid! I saw my president in waiting tackling very critical issues in a way that impressed me so much. Cannot say more. It was just spectacular.
The talkshow was just the best in these days of turmoil…I was amazed how he knows Nairobi and what he needs fixed. I think the interview came at the right time to keep the flame burning. What a legacy that would be if given a chance. More of those are needed to clearly articulate the party’s policies. Keep it up..
For sure that was a great interview. Raila was in his element, very impressive with his good understanding of world affairs and Kenyan needs.

The dust will settle. We need to keep our spirits up. Remember positive thinking and the energy that one exudes when we are in such a positive frame of mind is contagious. Think and act like winners and this energy will spread. I would suggest ODM organize a family fun day where we can have our musical talent on show, face painting (oranges on both cheeks) and a chance to meet our aspirants, food stalls etc.. ODM could charge a nominal fee for entrance. This would bring smiles back to our faces.

IMPROVING PRIMARY ELECTIONS IN KENYA
Congratulations ODM and all other parties in Kenya for trying your best to let the people decide on their potential leaders. There were some problems in the primary elections and it is natural to complain but it would be more helpful if we can improve the democratic space in Kenya by learning from the mistakes made. The main reasons for the problems experienced during the primary elections were insufficient funds, poor organization and management of the entire exercise. Consequently the elections were flawed in some places. Losers felt short-changed and defected and some parties made profits from nomination fees. Violence erupted in some places when aspirants tried to force their names in nomination certificates. Now here are some preliminary suggestions that may improve future primary elections:
1. The ECK should register parties, party members (unless expelled by a party and the ECK is notified) and conduct presidential, parliamentary, civic primary and national elections. ECK’s participation in registering party members dramatically reduces the costs of this activity.
2. To get rid of hundreds of briefcase parties, the registration fees for a new party should be one million shillings (one thousand shillings for the 1000 members), but a new party remains provisional until it attains 1 million voters in the next 12 months after registration. At least five provinces must each have 12.5% of the registered voters so that parties do not become regional entities. A provisional party that does not attain the conditions above after twelve months is deregistered immediately.
3. A registered party should be the one with one million voters when the party membership numbers are released by the ECK in the last week of March and September of every year. Both the provisional and registered party must have physical address, working office and website. Any registered party with less than a million voters after a roll count is deregistered immediately. However, the parties of all current elected members remain provisional if membership falls below 1,000,000 until the roll count in March in the election year.
4. Only registered parties should be funded whether or not they have elected officials and the funding should be capped at Kshs 50 per registered member per year for party activities only. The audit is done by the private sector on behalf of the ECK. With 14 million registered voters the maximum number of parties may be 14 and the total cost of supporting parties is estimated to be an affordable 700 million shillings per year.
5. Only parties still registered by the last week of March in the beginning of the election year can participate in primary and national elections.
6. Registered voters subscribe to a party without fee by signing a form at ECK offices concurrently with normal voter registration exercise. These voters are provided with party identification cards. Voters who do not wish to be associated with any party will be labeled ‘I’ meaning independent.
7. Only voters with voters and ECK issued party cards can participate in a party’s primary elections. Independent voters can only participate in the national elections.
8. Presidential primaries for all parties should be done by ECK in July of the election year. Although the primary elections will be conducted in the same polling station for all parties, party members participate in the presidential primaries of their using the party identification cards, IDs and voters card which are cross-checked against ECK’s voters and party membership list. The ECK follows the same procedure for parliamentary and civic primary nominations in November. Anybody in the ballot papers not elected cannot be elected on another registered party ticket since there will be no such name in the same ballot paper. Consequently there will be no defections.
9. Finally, the ECK conducts the elections in December, preferably before the 17th to avoid unnecessary holidays after the elections.
In fact that yesterday on the Spot interview was super. Tinga looked relaxed and with a firm grip of fundamental issues and a clear vision on practical solutions. I was especially thrilled by his take on infrastracture.
This is the president Kenya has been waiting for.

Electoral victory is about passion and Captain used to be so good at doing that and yet now ODM can’t raise good electoral passion for the elections. … Trouble.
Someone’s got it all wrong at the campaign team, and I think for now till Dec we need to drop this Majimbo talk and focus on TRIBALISM, CORRUPTION, BROKEN PROMISES…..

what happened to the outright losers like George Khaniri being given a nomination certificate despite having lost by over 2,000 votes.
The elections board should have done better than what we just saw during the nominations. From what we saw we should have given all those deserving winners the nod to carry the ODM mantle on the 27th of December as i assure u like what i have just commented on he will surely loose on that day.
Moving on the pentagon should also take note of the great contributions that the Youth for Raila are doing for the party and pull up our socks as we must win the coming elections.

Now that Kivuitu et al will “ignore” party lists and accept nomination certs on a first come first served basis, I hope the Odoyos, etc wont rush to ECK to present the certificates they received, but which were later rescinded by ODM NEB. Can you imagine such a scenario!!! OK, let me not be negative, but all the same, ODM needs to ensure that this does not happen at all.

watching raila on ntv yesterday was a great joy. the issues were tackled thoroughly. the man is truly presidential. but now that the nominations are over, i have to thank thye pentagon for owning up to the challenges that were experienced during the exercise. the proposal to meet the losers is also a step in the right direction.
on the tv ads: the domo rejoinder has by and large succeeded. we need much more.
we need to noe reming kenyans of the scandals and all the ills that bedevil this nation and especially those caused by this government. we need to print out flyers, leaflets etc in all languages and distribute indiscriminately. let the people read and understand. not all people watch tv. not all people understand english. the odm manifesto should be available everywhere in all social places etc.
this is the time for total war. PNU as you have noticed has collapsed and we should take advantage. we should remind people that voting for kibaki is like voting for kanu with all the baggage we thoughtvwe threw out in 2002.
WE MUST NOW MOVE FAST. NO MORE HESITATIONS. THE BATTLE CRY IS OUT. ALL VILLAGES MUST BE COMBED COMPLETELY. ALL DUST MUST BE RAISED.

I am just hearing Kibaki out campaigning in Nairobi, Kibwezi and Kalonzo is in Kisii, Uhuru in Kipkelion……. Where is Orange? Where is the Pentagon? Please release the campaign schedule NOW and move tirelessly. Make yourself heard in every corner. Scare the opponents. They have pulled the first shot. I think Kibaki and Kalonzo want to maximise on the nomination fiasco. That is why Kalonzo rushed to Kisii to confuse party members the more amidst dissatifaction of ODMers. Please Pentago, hit the road to Nyanza on a reconciliation tour. Rush to coast with an assurance message. Rift Valley need to hear that ODM is theirs to stay. Western cannot afford to be out in the game. kepp the spirit alive.
What is that Kivuitu is saying? Please ODM lawyers can you rush to Kivuitu for some intervention. He may just do a stupid thing by reinstating people who lost. Kivuitu is likely to complicate issues by interfering with internal party issues!

Just before we close this issue on the nominations. Assuming that some of the chaos was instigated at the behest of PNU moles, then let this be a warning of what to expect on elecetions day.
One issue we swept aside was the purchase of voter registers in key ODM support areas and importing of voters particularly to Langata. We have seen PNU is sparing no expense and effort to hit ODM hard in these areas. THis is a possible very real danger adn ODM need to address this conclusively and not wait for a fisaco similar to teh nominations.
We have to stop reacting and take the battle front to the PNU doorstep. Establish who is causing ODM the most harm, who is the chief architect of teh PNU campaign organ, what their communications channels are and hit them hard. As somebody said above, PNU is disorganised and vulnerable, lets consolidate strategy and hit them hard so that they have no time for any further mischief.
Secondly its time to bring the Kibaki campaign to a stop by presenting some obstacles to this criss crossing the country at will. Surely thos who know him well should bring up some hard hitting stuff. Start with his Nyeri hometown, show pictures of potholed roads etc.
firstly, as a staunch odm supporter, i must say that i was not very happy with odm’s general handling of the primaries. That there was going to be a fallout however big or small was never in doubt. The warning signs were there and besides, it is to be expected of all nomination processes. Damage control should therefore have been swift and reassuring.Someone at the secretariat is clearly asleep on the job. let us all be realistic, we lost some support there. it is a fact. however, its not too late to get back on track. we need to take it to p.n.u.. with all that we have.. keep exposing them for who they really are, corruption is their acheles heel… zero in on it and maintain the pressure. we need to step our campaign up a notch and this is the time to do it. sincerely.
I found the interview on and missed some parts. is there anyone who can put it on the net for everone to view because i have never been thoroughly impressed by a presidential candidate like I was of Raila yesterday. He gave me to something to smile about and I knew that my childrens’ future will be secured if we elect this great son of Kenya.

Hovwever, as Phillip mentions above, in cases where there were outright anomalies, staff from the secretariat should be sent out…Mudavadi did a good thing to own up to the logistical mayhem, Hon Lagat did well on Debate 07 last night to own up and mention the future odddf the party is more important now than before…let thos complaining be given audience by the pentagon…all those who went to NARC and others who have genuine reasons…we need re-assurance in the party.
Some more propaganda needs to be spinned…were are being outdone on the propoaganda ground!
You really have to admire Raila’s courage, everyone has been panicking about the nominations fiasco and no campaigns, but I am now realising that he has been waiting for everyone to calm down and start using their heads again instead of adrenaline. Pure genius. Kalonzo in Kuria or Kibaki in Ukambani means shit, it will not change the bottom line.
Meanwhile Raila sits back and allows everyone to compose themselves and review what happened rationally and more importantly to refocus on the big picture.
I was pleasantly suprised this morning when talking to a Kamba Colleuge, he confessed that he is supporting Raila, he was very rational and admitted that what is important is to remove the Kibaki regime, and the best chance lies with Raila. He said Kalonzo is for the future and everyone in Kambaland knows it, so a few guyz like him have decided to concentrate on the task at hand.
Any ideas how many votes Raila could get from kamba land, I was thinking may be 100,000. this could go along way. So far ODM has not gone to this region, the question is should they go?

Kibaki’s plan is to front the likes of Kombo, Kirwa, Makwere, Nyachae, Uhuru and Tuju, by dangling the carrot of VP, as the face of PNU for the sole purpose of winning re-election.
Meanwhile, taking a low profile but waiting to occupy the plum ministries in the event of a Kibaki win, are the Karumes, Michuki’s Kiraitu’s, and the Mwiraria’s of this world with whom Kibaki enjoys an almost incestuous political relationship.
The ultimate game plan is to appoint Saitoti VP and later in order to appease Moi, Kibaki will replace Saitoti toward the end of his second term with Uhuru Kenyatta to position him to succeed him in 2012.
Kombo, Kirwa Tuju, Makwere etc after being duped, will be left to occupy the 0.25 Ministries as Maru Kapkatet puts it.
History will have repeated itself but the cast will be different from NARC 2002 MOU.

1. Kwach should seek to resign with honor. I suggest he resign and tell Kenyans that he takes charge in other lower portfolio in ODM. This should be followed by the Pentagon H.E Odinga himslef accepting his resignation and congratulating him for efforts made in nominations.
2. That ODM bring on board all Nyanza elects and losers and they adress a press conf, admitting that mistakes might have been made, but they are all resolved and Kibaki the only target they all have.
3.Youth For Raila/ Professionals for Raila et al. You are a big let down!! you are waiting for Raila to come or organise campaigns so that you attend!!! this is wrong. Can someone give me contacts of the Youth for Nairobi for Raila. He need to organise Grand match of reconciliation whether Raila is there or not we will get out of offices and join you, let the match cover Town area with drums and banners the climax taken to Orange house and prayer telling off the ” hired goons” who destroyed ODM house be rebuked in the Name of Jesus!!!. Orange house actually needs spiritual cleansing and young people should take the lead because they are the ones who fought there.
I am alittle concerned with H.E being out of the country at this time, unless really necessary we need him in town all through.
4.Also members dont foget that we are fighting forces of Kenyata+Moi+Kibaki and is not easy, I tell you they surely have an hand on this. If you are all keen you realize that even KTN, the media we trusted so muchto be balanced and impartial have taken side with PNU simply because the ownership is in PNU. On 20th for instance there was Chaos at the PNU offices in Nairobi and police had to be called in to ,manage the mess but it was no where in KTN Prime or Nation. but yesterday we saw the same media bring us the chaos instigated by a civic candidate in Magarini and people protesting in Embakasi. So let us remain a lert. it might be harder in the coming days but let people entrusted with helping ODM strategise stop sleeping on the Job!!!!. They are really sleeping to a point that the person in charge of managing this site, on the section of Raila’s schedule of events still has what in his opinion he thought Raila would be going to 16th Nov, 12 Nov etc which were all wrong and does not tell us where he will be in the next one week. Please let us get serious.
Last but not least I do not know what might be going on, but if the Pentagon is not having sleepless nights on strategy building at this crucial time, then we are worse off. I want tobelieve they do. We kept quite hoping nomination would be proffessional but it was not, I am just not sure if something serious is going on, And I request the secretariat to bring in more capacity. We are willing to help freely with no cost.

We have cried and our tears should be drying, or have dried by now. No condition in life is permanent except CHANGE! We didn’t come out smelling of the roses we would have liked but, after chatting with a lot of people, I think, by and large, 80% of the results reflect the reality on the ground. Anybody who knows the workings of the media will tell you that, the remaining 20% is sufficient to give the most gory of details. And do note, PNU members are crying as much, how come we didn’t receive as explicit detail of their plight? ODMk, now known as “Organizing Defectors Movement of Kalonzo”, didn’t even hold primaries in some Ukambani areas yet, it came up with winners (Kalonzo is looking ridiculous pretending that nom’s fiasco didn’t happen at ODMk, displaying ‘eyes wide shut’ attitude he’s become known for and showing his lack of diligence just sitting waiting for defectors)…
ITS TIME TO MOVE ON… It was never going to be easy and it wasn’t. We faced a mighty challenge and even though we are battered, and some confidence shaken, we have to come through. Anybody who can’t stick with us at a tough time, let’s release them. Here, I mean even those who genuinely have a case. The point is, the BIG PICTURE must come continue to guide us. If one and his/her supporters can’t SACRIFICE their seat for just 5 years, for GREATER GOOD, what will the Raila detention years mean? What will the death of independence heroes mean? The nom’s weren’t perfect, BUT (s)he who is perfect step forward and we will have a reason not to forgive.
I want to assure ALL bloggers one thing – those Nyakach hotheads talking Kibaki Tena are ABSOLUTELY OUT OF THEIR MINDS! The Raila vote at Nyakach will be around 98%. My maths teachers taught me that, if in 17 out of 21 constituencies, the results are satisfactory, that is an 81% mark. The disputes in the remaining 4 constituencies will be resolved by the electorate on Dec 27 since, most are now on an ODM friendly party, NARC. I would have been happier if Steve Mwanga, of Ugenya, was in NARC as well but, he has made his choice in going to KADDU (and declaring his support for Raila).
SO, LET US GET BACK to the cause. The Struggle is never easy. 8 days ago, I heard Raila saying they are in the trenches, that they need our support, in whatever form. Come on, let’s give it. You will have to agree that, it’s much easier watching the proceedings on tv and reading the newspapers – which is what most of us did (even though, I salute those who turned out to vote)…
And, by the way, won’t it be GREAT to have a president who shows a mastery of Kenya’s issues like Raila displayed on NTV on Tuesday?
Well this issue of nominations has really let us down . Please somebody needs to rectify the problem fast. I hope all aggrieved parties need to be called to a round table ( if they agree ) and be impressed upon them that they should refrain their supporter from rioting .Assure them this is not the end of the road ,they need to start supporting ODM and stop going to press.
There is this issue of ODM not putting up enough bill boards to match those of Panua :Who is responsible ? please match bill board for bill board or even go further and put up more. They said chopper for chopper , Hummer for Hummer , so we do Bill board for Bill Board. Radio and TV adverts are quite few and do not run several times like the ones of Kazi iishie , please run the adverts several times in all radios/ TV stations during prime time and between all programmes being shown .
On Monday – 19 /11/2007 , some guys where handing out free newsletters ( they call them so )titled RAILA AND DICK MORRIS {-you are known by the company you keep} at the university way road and other roads. Please whoever is our spin doctor then you are sleeping on job. Do something very fast and make sure your information is accurate and can fell this elephant.( Let us not allow them the luxury of responding like they did on Sunday newspaper -18/11/2007 ) make it a killer blow. Please start using some dirty trick like the ones they are employing but more tactful .
To prevent the rating going down can the Pentagon members be seen every now and then in Tv doing some social activities and on some road shows (and TV/ radio talk shows ) also as Nikie said areas like Nyanza,Rift valley ,Mombasa and Nairobi should be covered again in total , just a suggestion . Politics is a game of perceptions, let us create it.

Remeber politicians never lose, they are rigged out. Then here we have crafty opponenet bank rolling protests, How best would you handle the situation?
The main thing is that we have managed to cross it, let us plan the way ahead. It is only unfortunate we did not point out to our people the option of NARC early enough. It would have helped in away.

Campaigns are hot and that should be reflected in all channels of communication. We could have a thread on each of the points in the manifesto- by the way where is it ? It is taking eternity to get here.
Can we have Yahoo Group email which will also allow us to spread our messages via email? What other strategic blogs aare there for us to post ? I can offer my strategy services for free on e-marketing. There is alot we havent done to get people to sleep, walk, talk and think orange.
I fear like many people here that we might be caught unawares by our opponents. As I said elsewhere we expect perfection in all that we do. Why should we be the ones defending ourselves again and again.
I like TV and Radio ads but on the level of attacking our opponents we lack Integrated Strategy. I think we let the Kenren issue die too easily. Where are the documents flying around. Guys we need not them get away with a simple press conference. Just look what these guys have made of Dick Morris, MOU, Majimbo. We attack on safcom and telkom then we let it die ?

We are underusing the power in information technology, and this is our undoing. What makes our arch rivals prolific campainers is nothing other than the power of IT / ICT. Whoever has access to the PNU website will agree with me that every effort is being put in place by the site (PNU) developers to ensure that you not only sign in to be a member, but also give your cell phone number. Agent4Change, that’s a bone for you to chew. Lets get interactive from the constituency level, receiving updates by our volunteer constituency watchdogs.
Am a bit concerned with the strategists and publicity fellows on board ODM. Are you aware that we’re doing badly in that sector? I cant go into details but please let us fliers, posters, billboards and electronic media all awash with Raila and ODM.

Something for our strategists. Have you noticed that quite a number of so called vijana are now “supporting” Kibaki? We all know this is not genuine, but what is the impact of this kind of purported support? Young artists have gone full blast Kibaki Tena, and none of them ever got the 500,000 jobs from Kibaki’s government, according to his manifesto 2002. Can you look for a way to bring this out to those very youth and let them come out openly and tell other young Kenyans why they’re supporting Kibaki who is, funny enough, their great grandfathers age with fellow great grandfathers sorrounding him. Is this a survival or get -rich-quick mechanism, Mr. Kioko of the infamous Vijana Tugutuke na Kibaki? History will judge you harshly, Kioko. I reserve my comments on our dollar-boy CMB Prezzo! DNA, you know why you’re supporting Kibaki. Nothing to do with his presidential bid. Can’t we have an advert on this, Oh dear strategists?
Every man has two reasons for doing something. A good reason and a real reason. The good reason for forcefully floating the Safaricom IPO is for Kenyans to have a chance of at least owning one of Africa’s most profitable company. But can somebody please tell me the real reason for this? Not just Safaricom alone, but also Telkom, Equity and the like. This is a mess and if we as Kenyans dont shout, the Pentagon will do and PNU will call that domo. Can’t we organize for peaceful demonstrations in all the major towns, not necessarily with the Pentagon but youths and other affected parties who will suffer after these PNU thugs have gone home on 28th December? Kimunya said that the ODM wants to sell these corporations when they get to power. This is a clear indicator that they’re on their way packing (PNU) and want ODM to inherit empty shells. They, unlike their predecessor Moi and company, are stealing in the good name of sambaza kwa wananchi, doing this in broad daylight, under the guise of privatizing and sambazaring, with no keen interest in establishing the Privatization Commission. Let Kenyans be warned that the carrot being dangled in the name of shares and investment is a mere bait meant to rob them of their hard earned cash.
We face an enemy, and a dangerous enemy in this case. He has enormous resources, from Mwananchi himself. We’ve been smartly conned, and now our money is being used to spear head this PNU campaign. The problem is, ODM is an idea whose time has come. PNU, watch out!

Njuguna, I second your idea that we need further sub-divisions, or maybe a reorganisation of this blog to tackle key issues raised here. Should we have something like a forum instead? Or should we continue with threads?
Some of the issues raised according to what I’ve read are:
1. The Manifesto – access to it and discussions surrounding itl Also, the issue of policies to effect this manifesto
2. The issue of the youth for ODM. Where they are, how we can help
3. ODM spokesperson and a visible campaign manager(s)
4. A constituency watch (I like this idea)

6. Other ideas that I don’t want to post here since panua is watching (I’ll send this to the gmail)
We have very creative people here who would be willing to contribute to different sections of a forum if we decide to go that way (people to deal with propaganda, etc)
Yes we cannot match panua shilling for shilling. What we do have though is ideas, willpower and a passion for real change in our beloved country. Panua can’t and wont beat this.

None of us with voters’ cards in sound minds can vote in a president and a government filtered with people of questionable characters, morals and ideals, plus an arrogant president to boot! Where is the constitution in over 1000 days? Not even a sorry and no explanation or even a lie as to why. Kibaki has taken us for a ride.
Wana ODM, we have been fooled before, we cannot let ourselves be fooled again with empty promises that fades almost immediately one sets his foot into that office. Mwai Kibaki is a very forgetful old man. He challenges Raila to tell Kenyans what he (Raila) has done for Kenyans. I wish to remind Mr. Kibaki that Raila has done so much for Kenyans and for Kibaki himself. The highlights of what Raila has done for Kenyans include:
1. Raila is the one who put Kibaki in State House. Kenyans do not have short memories and remember very well that while Kibaki was hospitalized in London, Raila was working very hard to get him (Kibaki) elected president. Because of Raila’s hard and unselfish work, Kibaki was able to garner 3.8 million votes in the 2002 presidential elections. Tragically, when Kibaki took over as president, he was so blinded by tribalism and greed that he forgot that Raila and millions of Kenyans from every part of the country had put him in State House
2. When he took over as Minister of Public Works, Raila immediately appointed a task force to identify and blacklist rogue contractors, streamline award of contracts, improve quality of products (constructed roads and buildings), and identify genuine pending bills . It turned out the foremost rogue contractors were kibaki’s kin and as a result, Kibaki rubbished Raila’s good work. The good thing is that Kenyans remember what Raila did for them in the short period he was Minister of Public Works.
Kenyans also remember that while Mwiraria who was the Minister for Finance and the rest of his Mount Kenya Mafia were busy stuffing their pockets and bank accounts with stolen Anglo-Leasing billions, they were also busy denying Minister Raila and his Ministry of Public Works funds to build and repair roads. Kibaki appears to have forgotten that when Raila as Minister of Public Works and Housing brought in an American developer to upgrade the Nairobi slums starting with Kibera by building new low-cost houses, he (Kibaki) stopped Rail in his tracks and immediately moved Housing to his homeboy Kimunya’s Ministry of Lands which now became Ministry of Lands and Housing. Why did Kibaki remove Housing from Raila? The answer is tribalism, greed, and jealousy.
3. Raila fought very hard to save Kenyans from the hidden selfish agenda that the Mount Kenya Mafia had in place ready to implement had the Banana side won the 2005 referendum. Kibaki knows very well what he was going to do had they won the referendum. On Jamhuri Day of December 12, 2005. Mwai Kibaki was going to proclaim the new constitution. Immediately after that proclamation, the then Minister of Lands was going to annex huge tracts of land as government trust land and the holders of Title Deeds, which Kimunya had already declared were worthless pieces of paper , would be today landless. How many hundreds of thousands of families would be landless today if Raila had not worked hard to defeat the Banana side and all their selfish plans and intrigues?
4. Raila risked his own life to expose the mercenaries that Kibaki’s own inner-circle ministers and “roving unelected lady minister/Second Lady” had imported into Kenya. The mercenaries attacked The Standard media house burning thousands of copies of the day’s issue of The Standard newspaper. They roughed up the employees, Kenyans who were going about their business of building their country. The same mercenaries attacked Kenyans at the Jomo Kenyatta international airport threatening them with guns that they were carrying. If Raila had not worked hard to expose the mercenaries, how many Kenyans would be dead today killed by mercenaries imported by their own government.
It is possible that the same mercenaries could have been involved in the execution of Mungiki suspects and the foreigners who have been reported missing in Kenya in Ngong Forest. At the height of hide-and-seek game as Raila tracked the mercenaries, there were reports that the mercenaries were training killers in the forest. Could it have been Ngong Forest? To add insult to injury, it was heart-wrenching to see how Kibaki was deceiving some of his so-called Ministers into believing that they were real Ministers. While Raila was fighting off the mercenaries, it emerged that Gideon Konchela, who was supposed to be the Minister of Immigration, had no clue on the mercenary-Arturs. Konchela even publicly stated that the Arturs were investors and owners of Kensington Holdings, a local investments company.
Kibaki appointed Gideon Konchela to be the Minister of Immigration only on paper while the real man running the Immigration Ministry is John Michuki.
5. With some due credit to Kibaki, I admit that Raila was not able to stop Kibaki from shutting Kenyans of tribes other than Kikuyu, Meru, and Embu from the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Education, and Office of the President’s Provincial Administration and Internal Security.
6. Raila already had too much on his plate and was not able to stop the Kibaki government from killing Eldoret International Airport, Kabarnet town, uprooting of KETEPA from Kericho and moving it to Thika, moving of fish processing from Kisumu to Thika, reduction of annual Bonus paid to Tea farmers, denying writing-off of loans owed by Tea, Sugarcane, Pyrethrum farmers as had been done for the Mount Kenya region Coffee farmers, the mass sacking of Kalenjin civil servants (800 senior officers sacked in one year alone), the eviction of Kalenjins and Kisiis from Mau Forest area even though they were holding genuine Title Deeds and the racing to the ground of their churches and schools, and many other vices perpetrated by the Kibaki government.
7. Raila could not also stop the the re-emergence of GEMA under the new name MEGA. Kibaki’s own inner circle ministers declared publicly that they were forming MEGA as a successor to GEMA and this was carried out in the Kenya media. I have always wondered why Kibaki appointed Njenga Karume as the first Minister of Special Programmes. Later on, after he was moved to Defence, Karume did not relinquish control of Special Programmes docket entirely after he was appointed the Minister of Defence. This was reported in the Kenyan media. He continued to control the money and program aspects leaving Munyes with almost no duties other than warming his seat and once in a while signing papers.
After wondering quietly and aloud to myself for sometimes, I have come to the conclusion that Kibaki knew what he was doing when he appointed Karume as the Minister of Special Programmes. The appointment came about at the same time as the public launch of MEGA. Kibaki must have been tapping into the enormous experience of Njenga Karume as the long-serving Chairman of GEMA to help steer the affairs of the newly-formed MEGA and get it off the ground. I believe that MEGA is one of the Special Programmes projects.
KIBAKI CAN CHOOSE TO CONVENIENTLY FORGET BUT OTHER KENYANS WILL NEVER FORGET. THANKS RAILA FOR ALL THAT YOU HAVE DONE FOR KENYA AND FOR THE MANY MORE THAT YOU WILL DO FOR YOUR COUNTRY AND PEOPLE GIVING ALL KENYANS EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES TO CONTRIBUTE IN NATION-BUILDING

the above story inteh DN demonstrates what I’ve been asking. Its time to put PNU agents to shame and in prison. THe lies and slander as well as criminal acts such as above should not be allowed to continue. ODM must make efforts to report these and enable the police to investigate as necessary. Clearly there are responsible police men and women in the force doing the jobs diligently. Do not be surprised if a few officers are suddenly transfered due to this action. ODM pentagon should show solidarity with the few upright memeber of the forces and be seen to cultivate an atmosphere of working relation with the few good officers doing their duties. My contribution as far as nomination is concerned is that can anyone tell me which party among ODM, ODM-K, PANUA had a smooth nomination without any problem? the answer is simple , none so what i would like to say is that lets learn from our mistake and move foward to achieve our objective of winning this election.

We always seem to over analyse our campaign strategy.There is a fine line.We can analyse this and analyse that but there is a danger of over analysing things.It brings panick and worry.When a team loses the manager takes the brunt but players take responsibility.Our players now are the aspiring ODM MPs.They need to create visibility on the ground.Balala is doing a good job on the ground in his constituency such that even kids are singing Raila na Balala.Joho is doing a good job in Kisauni because he knows he has a big task at hand.Mwahima in Likoni has just started and we can feel him already and the enthusiasm he is creating.You people need to start taking your aspiring MPs to task over what they are doing for the party.They are the groundsmen.We wont need people who want to depend on the ODM wave this time.Official campaigns begin on 24th so am sure the pentagon has something in store beginning then
Two events that Kibaki team should not get away with easily. They are dirty an with it.d for these two alone we can fix them. They are not propaganda they are facts:
1. The 1Million a plate lunch- who participated ? What will they be paid with ? Why did they participate.

We want to set things in motion and we cant do it individually. I believe in the motto “You’ll never walk alone.” Can we pump life in these lobby things by involving the interested parties? We are ready to set it off, voluntarily. Stop wasting us. Lobby groups are not supposed to be some ghost companies existing only on paper and mythical on the ground. New Steadman polls are RO -43.6 KM 43.3. I suspect they are cooked but I think we should act like winners.
I was just overheard a conversation between two guys who attended the luncheopn yesterday discussing the PNU strategy.
They said from next week the media will be flooded with Kibaki message- radio, tv, posters, billboards etc. Their belief as they say is whoever has the most money will win.
They also said that their propaganda is really working and all they need to do is to intensify it. The goal is to get Raila talk about all dirty things.
The person am talking about is a close confidant of energy minister-Kiraitu.
Was I scared by the talk ? Not a bit. But behind my mind I wonder what is happening in our strategy. What do we have to counter the offensive that is coming. Could we get these people use their money defending themselves rather than attacking ?

LIVONDO FAILS ECK LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY TEST
The ECK last evening declined to accept Mr. Stanley Livondo’s Direct Nomination for Lang’ata Constituency by PNU after he failed to pass the Language Proficiency Test given by ECK last week.
The flamboyant rookie politician who only a month ago was arrested on murder suspicions after the fatal shooting of a youth during a public meeting he had attended in Western Kenya is said to have dropped out of school at Standard Six and can hardly construct an English or Kiswahili sentence let alone pronounce words like “Categorically” and “Ashamedly”.
Unknown to Livondo , Kenya ‘s electoral rules require that Parliamentary candidates pass Oral & Written Language Proficiency Test. Earlier today thousands of PNU supporters from Central Kenya were reportedly disenfranchised after the ECK declared that 20,000 newly registered voters in Lang’ata had committed electoral fraud by double registering.

Members of the Press had to remind Mr. Livondo that the constituency is called Langata,and not Kibera. More reports filtering in indicate that Stanley Livondo attempted to have the ECK approve his candidature on the strength of marks he scored in an English Composition that he wrote while in standard six at Bukhungu Tay & Poarding Primary School .
Mr. Livondo is set to hold a press conference later today at Inzogu Bar & Restaurant where it is rumoured that he will use the opportunity to showcase his Standard Six Composition and accuse his main opponent of “Priping” the ECK even as he moves to “tuck” the “ECK Pullet”.
This did not surprise me at all when I received the news via email, am waiting to see if ECK rules will be bent in his case.

The bounderies of voting were drawn several months before, and we are winning (say with me – WE ARE WINNING). Miracles if I can remember, happened hundreds of years back! PUNU can be sure no miracles will happen this year, not in their camp!
Don’t you remember, few years back we as Kenyans sanctioned Kibaki for presidency and everybody sang his/herself crazy, unfortunately we are not doing so for a second time because of his refusal to fight curruption and instead inviting back and launching with the same corrupt people. Is this what we endorsed him for? NO
Few years back we authorized Kibaki to review the constitution that will set us Kenyans free and give us our constitutional rights! My brothers & sisters this was thrown to the dogs and instead, we got ourselves blackmailed with a draft constitution that seemed to have been written by a four-year old. Thanks to Raila and his team, it never saw the light of day. Do we want another liee about the same? NO
Four years ago when we went to the polls, Kibaki’s presidency is not what we had in mind, our sending Raila to State House this time round is not without doubts, but he is far much above Kibaki in comparisson.
Three quaters of this nation is crying faul play because of Kibakis governance, so please tell me where he will get the votes that he so desperately needs. We as a country know that we are on the wrong track economically, socially, politically…..and nothing seems to moving if not for Kibaki and his alliances.

A draft report from Steadman poll showed Raila Odinga on a threatening lead before it was ‘levelled ‘under directive from state house, it can now be revealed. The pollster results from the raw data showed
1. Raila Odinga 56%
2. Mwai Kibaki 33%
3. Kalonzo 9%
4. Undecided 2%
Poll Managing Director Mr Waititu, had been instructed before not to release the results until final decision from State house operatives mainly from Mt Kenya region. ODMers no need to over worry about these polls, all indications are there is a strategic plan to paint Kibaki as leading. The Nation polls on Saturday are even worse, how can you have three pollsters claiming to have interviewed people in Rift Valley one shows 44% and another 28% for the same province and same candidate?Granted ODM has gone through baptism by fire in the last few days its time to heal and bring back all supporters together.
Are we prepared for another 5 years of matusi, ukabila and mark you the theft will be 20 times worse, Anglo leasing and goldenberg will look like a child’s play.
Please spread the word to brothers and sisters who were disheartened by the nominations that this is a marathon.We will stumble but we should not fall.

Otieno report on steadman is consistent with the opinion polls that are on radio.Yesterday on classic Raila had 55% while Kibaki had 35% with Kalonzo at 10%.The ones on radio may not be scientific but they are a pointer.Its why i cannot believe what i get from Steadman

Heheheeeeee! We are still leading! Even if it was a 0.001 difference. If the polls were held today, we will emerge winners. How sweet! Let them waste their time twisting arms fooling themselves that they are catching up with us. Who has said that? And where? What have they done to Kenyans in two weeks to suddenly change their minds to vote for them after four years of misery in their hands.

The Steadman Polls: It does matter to be concerned about steadman polls. Polls enourage whichever way they may appear. Let us not be like Kalonzo’s team. We should not be complaining all the time. In as much as we may not believe in them(polls), we can use them to develop strategy. You don’t win through opinion polls but you can easly lose if opinion polls are not inclined to your side. The thing should be that we need to look stable and in-charge. We need to recognise that the nominations saga hit us hardest. We are the ones who suffered the most with negatative media reporting. That must have had an impact. But that impact must be shortlived because people are recollecting themselves and true in the next two weeks, Raila will be at 47.3 and Kibaki at 42.3. But this will depend on how spectacular the ODM campaigns the next week will be. So instead of whining about the polls, let us have the Young Turks for Raila, Women for Raila and ODM professionals come out of Nairobi and head to the villages.
By the way, this time around, Steadman is not polling of party rating. One may demand to know.
That said, I know Raila is geared to win. Spinners please ensure that the GK vehicle with weapons is publiciled on yahoo. The One Million plate is an irony. Please, tell Kenyans that it is immoral to have such an act. If we champion for the poor, then we cannot talk about one million. It confirms that Kibaki is the president for the Rich.
Move on. Bloggers and those supporters in the city are a negligible number of voters. I need we need to decentralise our campaigns. We need to tagua (utaguzi) our campaigns.

ODMers, please let us be careful on what we read in the internet. Some people are malicious and just spreading lies, where they know the lies will generate excitement or anger from ODM supporters. Livondo was not turned away as someone is saying. He was cleared and will be vying. Some blogers are just playing with ODM supporters minds to see how they – ODmers react. Do not fall in the PNU propaganda traps, especially if you are not on the ground to know exactly what is happening. Try to verify info with other people on the ground. I’m in the diaspora most of the time and will be heading home to campaign and vote come Dec. I usually call a few people at hoem to cross-check everything I read in the internet. Again let us be careful not to fall into PNU/Kibaki propaganda and lies trap.
Let us go out, use every opportunity and campaign for ODM, Raila and his team of leaders cleared to compete in various regions across the country. POLLSTER ANALYSIS- WAY FORWARD FOR ODM:
This sensitivity analysis has attempted to use the most pessimistic opinion poll results of the last 8 weeks (Sept 29th to Nov 23rd) from Consumer insight, a company engaged by the Nation media group to conduct weekly presidential polls. It has consistently given ODM and Raila the worst results. It, however, offers the best opportunity for us to use its data to plan so as to get maximum gain. It is mean to help ODM move forward, by identifying the most productive areas to focus its campaign and strength on in the next few weeks. BECAUSE WE MUST WIN BY MAJORITY VOTES AND SEATS.
This analysis has the following conclusions and way forward. It is supported by graphs from which the conclusions have been drawn.
1. Out of any score for ODM, about 11 comes from R Valley, 1 from Eastern, 1 Central, 12 Nyanza, 8 Western, 4 from Nairobi, 4 from Coast and 1.3 from North Eastern. This gives us a stable 42% at any given time. We can pick another upto 15% from the zones where we oscillate most.
2. Western, Nyanza, North Eastern and Rift Valley earn ODM a safe % above 50% of voters in the respective provinces. These should be maintained for the mandatory requirement of 25% score in at least 5 provinces. We should focus on encouraging our supporters to vote, and ensure voter turnout is 99%. People should be repeatedly told to spend Xmas vacation at their voting areas, to avoid traffic hitch experienced every year at and after Xmas. We should tell them to be ready to sacrifice and vote, and thereafter make traveling plans. It was observed that during the nominations, many did not turn up to vote; this scenario should not be repeated in the final polls.
3. The Nairobi % is the most inconsistent in %, sometimes exceeding 50% and sometimes coming below 50%.
4. The points we get from each province is most stable in Western, Nyanza and Central; and relatively stable in North eastern. They are most unstable/ oscillate most in R Valley, Nairobi and Coast. The points we lose weekly or fortnightly are often picked by Kibaki and PNU
5. We have the biggest chance to improve our performance and add extra marks from Rift valley, Eastern, Nairobi and Coast, where we can earn upto 5.8, 1.9, 2 and 0.8 respectively.
WE SHOULD CONDUCT A SERIES OF HIGH PROFILE CAMPAIGNS IN RIFT VALLEY, EASTERN, NAIROBI AND COAST PROVINCES, ESPECIALLY IN THE RURAL AREAS. THIS WILL BOOST OUR SCORE BY AT LEAST 5 POINTS. THIS IS IMPORTANT AND URGENT AS A MORALE BOOSTER TO OUR RURAL FOLLOWERS.

I have seen the Pentagon campaign schedule for Coast province, but why have you left out Kwale? Do you plan to go back there later? because you need to really go in there!!!!
The main focus of the aspirants in key ODM strongholds should be TURNOUT. In some areas like Luo Nyanza, the aspirants are almost assured of their seats, so they may relax, but this will injure the presidential campaign. The voters may also take it for granted, believing there is no contest.
I hope after this monday meeting the aspirants (especially in Luo Nyanza) have a clear message, to rally supporters to turn out in all their numbers and vote for Raila.

Id like to point out one mistake. We the Youth intend to vote in the masses but i tend to feel you need to reach out more to us.
You need to appeal to the 18-25 group more. Take advantage of the fad for local musicians and gracing social events for the youth.

I have harped on the video and still images until now I do not anymore. With you tube around – all you need is a cheap camera , and editing software that you cam download for free and voila!! I do it all the time. ODM can spare a small change to buy a digital camera and upload photos of their rallies and meetings?

I read somewhere that school certificates are still being withheld by school principals even in Nyeri. My simple reasoning is that if a 1000 guys can eat 1M lunch and use the cash to buy Pangas, send a 25M cheque to cause chaos, then its only fair that the 90% voters be given a chance to visit these people in their houses and get cash to clear school fees arrears, medical bills and other pressing day to day affairs. If PNU is so popular then this cash can be better utilised on the social well being of their supporters. They could say have another lunch for 100,000 and pay off the entire Central school fees arrears and stop the finger pointing with Kibaki/Min Educ saying one thing, Headmasters saying another and the poor parents and former students caught in between.

As I blogged or rather predicted somewhere earlier, Raila and his ODM team of leaders are clever political strategist, save for the nominations hitch. They kept their cool on this thing and listened unmoved when the scaremongers are shouting themselves telling all manner of lies until an opportune time to take the wind out of their wasted energy. Now let us see how / what the liars will now come up with to scare people. The latest lies, propaganda and dirty tricks revealed by RIS team (info by Yego) will fall flat in their faces.

Muslim leaders today made public their pact with ODM Presidential candidate Raila Odinga and allayed fears that it was meant to suppress other religions in the country.
They also revealed their reasons for backing Mr Odinga instead of his rivals President Kibaki of the Party of National Unity (PNU) and ODM Kenya flag bearer Kalonzo Musyoka.
The National Muslim Leaders Forum (NAMLEF), which signed the memorandum of understanding (MoU) on behalf of the Islamic faithful, declared that they chose the move to protect the interests of their members who they stated have been under oppression since independence.
Sheikh Abdullahi Abdi, the NAMLEF chairman, said: “The intention and objective (of signing the MoU) was to safeguard the interests and welfare of a section of the Kenyan community (Muslims) that has undergone atrocities over the last 44 years.”
Muslims, said Sheikh Abdi, had no intention of off-loading the burden of their sufferings to any other community or religion in the country. “The fear that Muslims want to introduce Sharia law and make Islam the supreme religion in the country are false and meant to generate hostility between us and our Christian and Hindu brothers. Islam does not suppress other religions,” he said.
NAMLEF, the national umbrella platform of leaders of Muslim organizations, had called the Press conference at its offices in Hurlingham, Nairobi for the first time in two months to clear the air over the controversy that Mr Odinga had entered into a pact with them ahead of the General Election.
When the ODM candidate said he publicly that he had signed an MoU with Muslims, it set forth a national debate on its rationale with leaders of the Christian faith in the country divided over it. The matter was also picked up by PNU leaders who condemned the move as meant to create religious animosity in the country. A section of key Islamic organizations such as Supreme Council of Muslims of Kenya (Supkem) disowned the pact stating that they were not consulted. On his part, Mr Odinga stated that it was his assurance to the Muslims that their welfare would be guaranteed if he wins the elections.
Yesterday, the ODM candidate reiterated that the MoU with Muslims “was very innocent” of the accusations, stating that it was not the first time that such an agreement was being signed with the Muslim community.
“Even the Head of State, President Mwai Kibaki, did so in the run up to the 2002 general elections at Nyali Beach Hotel in the presence of late Vice President Michael Wamalwa and Kalonzo Musyoka (now ODM-K presidential candidate). I therefore wonder why people are up in arms when I sign such a harmless agreement with the Muslims,” he said.
While agreeing with Mr Odinga on the 2002 MoU, Sheikh Abdi and Sheikh Said Athman — the national executive council member of the Muslim forum — said the venue was Reef Hotel, Mombasa.

This Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) is made between Honorable Raila Amolo Odinga on one hand and the National Muslim Leaders Forum (NAMLEF) on the other hand.
At the time of execution of this MOU, on one hand, Hon. Raila Odinga has declared to vie for the presidency of Kenya during the 2007 General elections. He has sought the support of NAMLEF in getting the backing of the Muslim community in Kenya to back him for presidency.
On the other hand, NAMLEF a national umbrella platform of all leaders of Muslim organizations desires to see our country Kenya as a just, harmonious, peaceful and a prosperous nation based on good governance, constitutionalism and the rule of law, pro-poor policies, enhanced democratic space and where Kenyans effectively participate in shaping their destiny and the positive upliftment of the status and welfare of Muslims in Kenya and the correction of historical and structural injustices and marginalization meted on the Muslim through deliberate policies and programmes.
In entering into this agreement, NAMLEF and the Muslim community in Kenya recognize the fact that president Mwai Kibaki’s government has meted out calculated, deliberate, unprecedented discrimination, intimidation and harassment of sections of Kenyans, including the Muslims. NAMLEF and the Muslim in Kenya desire to see an end to this.
After due consultations, NAMLEF has arrived at a decision to support the candidature of Hon. Raila Odinga for Presidency during 2007
In this MOU reference to NAMLEF is intended to include and bind all such persons who have authority to commit NAMLEF or work under its authority.
This MOU therefore declares and commits Hon Raila Odinga and NAMLEF as follows. That:
A. Hon Raila Odinga and NAMLEF agree to this MOU to take effect forthwith upon it signing
B. This MOU is made to secure and cement solidarity and partnership between Hon Raila Odinga and NAMLEF constituency based on values of mutual trust, honesty integrity, transparency and good governance.
C. This MUO is made in utmost good faith and trust between Hon Raila Odinga and NAMLEF with the common objective of transforming our country Kenya into a proud, prosperous and just nation, where all Kenyans live in harmony realizing their full potential without discrimination, subjugation or fear.
D. NAMLEF shall:
a. Declare support for Hon. Raila Odinga’s candidature for presidency.
b. Support no other candidate for presidency for the 2007 General Elections.
c. Mobilize the Muslim constituency countrywide to support Honorable Raila Odinga’s candidature for presidency.
d. Provide Hon Raila Odinga’s presidency with support and wise counsel.
e. Maintain open links of communication during the presidency of Hon Raila Odinga
E. Hon Raila Odinga shall:
a. Embrace NAMLEF totally as his partner of choice in seeking the backing of the Muslim community, including access to and representation on all his presidential Campaign Organs.
B. Upon successful election and serving as the President of Kenya:
I. Continue to embrace NAMLEF as his partner of choice, providing support and sustain relations with it and the Muslim community.
II. Accord NAMLEF both an advisory and partner role in his government on all muslin affairs.
III. Embark on the radical transformation of Kenya to be as a just, harmonious, peaceful and a prosperous nation based on good governance, constitutionalism and the rule of law, pro-poor policies, enhanced democratic space and where Kenyans effectively participate in shaping their destiny through a genuinely devolved government.
IV. Initiate, within the first year, deliberate policies and programmes to redress historical, current and structural marginalization and injustices on Muslims in Kenya. This will include the entrenchment in the Kenyan constitution provision that will outlaw the targeting and profiling of any Kenyan community (including the Muslim) and subjecting them to human rights abuses, violations and discrimination under the guise of whatsoever , as has specifically been witnessed by the Muslim community in the past. Specific action will include the setting up of a commission to inquire on deliberate schemes and actions of government, its agencies or officers, to target or interfere with welfare and social well being of Muslim in Kenya as citizens including rendition of Kenyans to Somalia, Ethiopia and Guantanamo Bay. Such schemes and actions will be put to an end and public officers’ responsible for the same named and held to account.
V. Ensure equitable representation of all Muslims in all public appointments.
F. NAMLEF as a credible national Muslim institution and Hon Raila Odinga as an able national leader known for consistency, valor and statesmanship and vying for the highest position in Kenya Commit themselves to this MOU.

This is my take:
1. The Church in Kenya is going to very polarising. We are likely to see the uglies of religious intolerance in Kenya up and above ethnic violence that we experience every day.
2. The Church leaders as opposed to Muslims have shown that they are not ready to embrace others.
3. The Church is the one that called upon parties to the MOU to release the real MOU if the other one was fake. That call meant that when ODM releases the real one, things will calm down. I want to ask the Church if it knows of another MOU that it really wants to see other than the two – fake one and a genuine one.
4. NCCK and the Ufangamano Initiative, which I believe has metamophosised, is likely to take the country into chaos if it continues to touch on sensitive religious thread of the Kenyan community.
5. The Church seems to be playing partisan politics. Soon partisan politics will be in church (it is already happening) and the flock will go astray. Let us not invite the fury of the Master on the innonent blood.
6. If the Church is not satisfied with the disclosure of the document released yesterday, the truth is hard to tell. Only God who knows the secret places can be able show us the way. In the meantime, remain humble and pray for the unity of the country. Let love blossom.
7. Does the Church want to say that all the other propaganda about Raila is true? Does the Church believe Raila was involved in 1982? I do not think so. What the Church should do is to caution its faithfuls on negative propaganda that demeans human dignity. Raila is an Anglican and a politician.

How we miss Okullu and Muge
when the ODM pentagon respond to the MOU debate, I would ask that they remind Kenyans of a very simple and basic truth. It is shameful and very wrong that a Kenyan citizen has to sign an MoU in order to be a regarded as a citizen i.e we are barking up the wrong tree. The real issue here is that the fundamental rights of a select group of Kenyan citizens have been in the past (4o years or so) been trampled on such that for their continued well being it has become necessary to get into some form of written agreement.
We are all being made to chase after the symptoms associated with the problem rather than identify the root cause and deal with that.
If it were possible, the oppressed and poor majority of Kenya should sign an MoU with Raila to ensure that the next gover, also caters for their interests and not just for the rich few. Hey wait a minute… in fact we already have signed an MoU, called ODM support to get rid of inept governance.

1. He accepted CDF without a veto even though he refused to increase the allocation.

10. Reduced poverty by 10% from 55% to 46%. Never mind that we were actually at 51% in 2002. Somehow this guy manages to achieve heaven without doing anything. He is a master of low expectations. That company that stole 5% of safaricom shares. How do you actually steal shares of a public company? And you can’t be seen, not even known. Yes 5%. 5% of that golden mountain owned by you and me disappeared. We don’t know who stole it. May be we need to check keenly in Lake Baringo and Naromoru river, just may be we can find something. Kibaki actually tells me, his employer, that he lost the file at registrar of companies. Sometimes he says the registrar has refused to give him the file. But still he actually wants to sell all those shares before he goes home. If the file is lost how do you sell what is in the file? The shares are in the file. These are things only possible in a kibaki controlled environment.
14. Replaced all critical officers in the government of Kenya with “true professionals” (or are they geo-physiologically qualified people) in 1 year flat. The OP, statehouse, Finance, Energy, Lands, Education and foreign affairs. There was a rumour that at one time out of 74 districts, he actually managed to appoint 50 of his tribesmen as DCs. Miffed by this percentage he increased districts so he could appoint other Kenyans. Then Chuki Kimeendero heard a joke at Windsor that Kickback1 was now getting stale intelligence since most DCs are from elsewhere, they added districts and appointed their true professionals.
14. Managed to pay his friends at KACC more than himself (these guys or is it this guy have/has a huge job to do, a job bigger than that of the president of the republic of Kenya . No wonder we created squatters in Mau forest and watched as Kenyans became IDPs and refugees in Mt. Elgon . Yes there are Kenyans living in makeshift refugee camps in Uganda . Oh I nearly forgot the KNHRC actually recovered 500 bodies of young Kenyans killed in unfamiliar circumstances only comparable to the British Gulag, that strategy against the Mau Mau. I’m certain there are men and women of integrity in the police force that can enforce law and restore the dignity and pride of the police force. As a born again Christian my conscience is clear that revoking or reneging as they suggest, the said MOU would be disastrous not only for ODM but for the country coz God is a covenant God. The Bible itself is clear with treaties and that is why Jacob had to make a treaty with Esau, David and Jonathan and so on yet they were still used by God mightily. The treaty whether bad or good has been made and we should be prepared for it , perhaps it is what will take us where we want or where we should be.
Who does not know the problems of the Kenyan Church. I have always asked myself this question why is there no such a passion for the Gospel in Kenya yet Christ’s greatest commission to believers was go ye into the world and preach the gospel not

The threat is real; ODM is PNUs nightmare. PNU must win these coming elections at all costs but the cost right now is not about money…. there is no money worth at all. Any one who still feels that PNU has an upper hand is thinking from under the sand, is either all sunken or has a head buried deep within; everyday news and evidence carries the credence that ODM is increasingly unstoppable. PNU on the other hand is growingly engulfed in internal flames and their lack of unity and a sustainable campaign agenda, their greatest undoing. Maybe they started out late is the reason for all their woes.
After the nominations fiasco across party platforms ODM moved to mend fences within its homestead and now seems set to do the last stretch as a unit. PNU on the other hand has shooed aside a part of it coalition partners, who now have to sing negative songs from the sidelines.
Since the beginning of the real campaigns there have been blunders on both sides of the main political groupings but ODM, as the initial underdog always managed to use them to their advantage. The Majimbo issue, which ODM still publicly champions, the government has gone cold on on its equivalent propaganda. Why they got tired of reciprocating, I don’t know. Successful political campaigns should press on sustained rhetoric of propaganda until the aim is achieved. That is what ODM is doing.
The MOU with Muslims is another item. After the government went quiet on it, ODM went ahead and released their ‘genuine’ copy to shoo of the repulsing church and PNU stalwarts. Right now, the same MOU issue has come back to the centre stage of opposing discussions. The ‘church’ is spitting fire and PNU too is emitting the same with some urging ODM to reveal the real OMU. The question now is, whatever else they release, who will know the truth? And whatever the truth is, once again, ODM has managed to do what it does all the time; set a campaign agenda. Ordinarily, it should always be the reverse scenario of the government setting an agenda for the opposition to cry upon… which brings me to the next issue.
There is a purported government ploy to discredit ODM’s Raila in Rift Valley through distribution of posters depicting a caricature of him as a vicious leader hanging Moi, with a lot of other Kalenjin leaders queuing in line, the first one being Ruto. If the government is indeed behind these schemes as ODM says, then this turns out as a vicious propaganda to counter ODM in Rift Valley. If their aim was achieved, that is, if they were behind it in the first place then it was below par. The locals, both wananchi and police nabbed the culprits, both civilian ad and efforts to set them free are a cropper up to now. Otherwise, it raises the profile that the perpetrators want to create chaos, beginning with Rift Valley as the epicenter. If the government was not behind the leaflets then it will only become clearer in the near future, otherwise ODM has managed to paint in the public eye a clear picture of the government’s direct hand in the act. This is not far from the declaration by former president Moi that he will do anything in his means to lock out ODM from power in the coming elections.
Some quarters have fronted the thought that intention is to start ‘something big’ so that the elections are either held in a scenario of fear or are postponed anyway.
It almost seems that PNU’s song of a great development record is not dance-able as much as they had envisaged. This is equivalent to the rhetoric that the domo people do not have a track record to be voted. ODM on the other hand never seems to run of agenda, minting them out, one after the other successively, and each, causing a ‘desired effect’ and impact. What happened to the bags of goodies that President Kibaki has been dishing, seeming endlessly? It had a fairly good impact on the voters in a way. He should have sustained that effort or staggered it as opposed to right now when he moves around the country’s provinces with an empty hand. When you are always giving your dog ‘something’ it will forget the rabbit and continue staring at your dangling hands.
Enough of that!
What must PNU do in order to win the elections? First, on an open field; they can’t. There is no time for a credible campaign to revert the ratings sizably and secondly, the PNU house is in shambles. There is not time to fix that! So, what can PNU do?
There are several options, though they are all dirty. Kibaki should first remove focus from his aspirants because they can only deliver him individual votes. As Moi�s team-mate, he should run up to Moi for abracadabra which, from then on will not be clean anyway. Make a state chaos that is so unmanageable to the effect that polling will be a fiasco in provinces like Western, Rift Valley, North Eastern and Coast.
Sit on the ‘GEMA’ church to sustain an extreme negative propaganda on the person of Raila Odinga, day-in-day-out for the whole while of the remaining days. In this approach the media like church, television and Radio should make Raila, their negative anthem incessantly. This is apt to have the greatest clean effort.
Finally, if all else fails; the president should ‘plot’ a military coup which in effect will transfer power from himself to the military. In this case, the new rulers will suspend the constitution and give a window period of their presence until a new election is held, the time-frame in this case would be measured in terms of what it will take to shred ODM and Raila in the process of stabilizing PNU for the elections set again by the military leaders. Desperate situations call for desperate measures�

In response all ODMers should be alerted that they have a responsibility to stop all forms of vote stealing.

ODM must impress on ECK to allow for an independent audit and sampling of the ballot papers long before election day with international observers if need be
2ndly work with law enforcement officers, media, and the public (ODM supporters) to be vigialnt at all entry points for the fake shipments. And Mutu or his agents must be accosted on landing.
Logistical barriers to voting
d) robbing voters of their IDs and voting cards through carjacking or highway robbery
e) transport hitches
ODM supporters must do all in their capacity to travel safely be it travel in large numbers or discretely and safeguard their voter card, but even more important memorise your ID or voter card, make a copy if need be
Bribery
f) bribing voters or buying voter cards
g) funding imbibing on election day eve
vigilance and integrity of ODM supporters is well known
chaos
h) violence at poll centers or general violence in specific areas
i) generate chaos so that elections get postponed or army interference
and amid all this
j) continue fanning propaganda and since the propaganda has backfired so badly, start to make it look like ODM is engaged in propaganda.
In all these strategies, PNU assumes no rule of law. Aren’t there honest and responsible police men and women out there any more? I think there are but have not been approached enough. Reach out to the integrity of individual officers, obviously the top ranks are compromised or otherwise unable to mobilise. Reach out also to forces and request that they do not get involved. We have the most admired UN peace keepers in these men and women and they should not be dragged into the mud by PNU.

Yesterday I listened to Pastor Oginde of NPC and Rev. Otieno of All Saints talk about the MOU. Interestingly they all said there is nothing wrong with the MOU and stateds that Muslims have been mistreated in the country. They even went ahead and said that Supkem presented a similar memorandum to Kibaki.
Rev. Otieno confessed that Muslim dominated areas of Coast and N. Eastern have been marginalized- which is a fact.
Can we get some christian leaders to demand government explanation on why Kenyans couldn’t be tried in Kenya ?
The thing about Kenyatta-Kibaki-Moi MOU is great. Keep it hot.

To add on the constituencies mentioned, I would like Raila in the company of Musalia this time to visit Bungoma(old district) and target kimilili, webuye, kanduyi…there are many voters with a cocktail of origins who can help our cause…we need to warm up to them…traverse the district in a whirl wind.
Also find time for Mumias, Malava, Teso, Mt. Elgon, Saboti, Kwanza and even Chereng’anyi. There are loose ends that need tightening in these areas.
Get other people who support our cause and are aware on the 2002 MoUs to shout on the roof tops about them.

I need to bring to your attention the situation in KISII as a whole. The PENTAGON urgently needs to go there and set things straight. After the nominations a number of our supporters felt cheated and need to be talked to and convinced to remain in ODM.\
The successful aspirants also need to be put to task on why they are not seriously campaigning. The money being used in kisii by the NYACHAE group is huge.

On the television (KTN Weekend Prime), it was some analysis about Lucy wa Kibaki and I recall her saying that ‘ na baada ya rais (Kibaki) kumaliza na kutoka hapo(statehouse), pengine sisi tunajua ni nani huyo mwingine ataingia.’
I think this statement clearly means a well calculated succession plan and it boils down to what we call the MOU of the former president,( Moi), former presidents project (Kenyatta Uhuru) who also happens to be the ex- presidents son, and the president(Kibaki) to contain and detain the presidency in their families. This therefore isn’t mch a propaganda but it has a basis of argument based on the influence of Lucy and also due to the fact that most of the hints have always been licked through her. Take the return of Mwiraria for example.
I also believe, as Vincent says above, that they (PUNU) have resorted to manupulating opinion polls to send cold among us that we may contemplate losing so that in the event that they rig, it would be seen that they also had higher probability of winning hence our complaint becomes unfounded. Fellows, believe it that we’re way ahead and are winning and all we need is to curb any opportunity of rigging. The said ballots,(couterfeit) if they exist, should be accosted on the way (probably at the port) and exposed to public. Not all public servants are loyal to PUNU and some of them are more than willing to assist and they do it. Only need an alert. The RIS and secretariat need to act on these.

Interesting point, Kalonzo is also in the field, and although I don’t want to write him off completely he dopes have a sizable following. What is imperitive is Kalonzo is key in the whole jig saw as he will ensure Kibaki is locked out of Kamba regions and that’s a healthy 400,000 votes. Further he will spoil votes in other areas. I don’t think any propaganda coming from him will be as effective as from PNU merely because they control the media and can ensure maximum exposure. Consequently I’m quite happy Kalonzo feeding of the scraps as he is merely drumming up issues already in the spot light and not setting any agenda/propaganda as such. Let him eat the crumbs and keep those votes away from MK

Raila is setting the pace again this week with Kibaki showing more signs of lack of ideas.
Why has he not named his running mate? Still playing the old MO1 games of promising everyone including Kituyi, Awori, Uhuru etc VP positions at their own expense and perils….

Kalonzo has run out of ideas. he is a decent man who got drunk with the Opinion polls early in the year without realising that RO is much smarter politically than him. Kalonzo is mainly travelling in parts that he assumes he has votes but I know he will be sorely disappointed come Dec 28th. I thought he was decent until I looked at his team and apparently his core team is tribal based. In Funyula, his running mate will barely get votes as the ODM wave in that area is very strong. I think we should be more concerned about Kalonzo in some parts of eastern neighboring nairobi province. that is where he may get undecided votes.
Charles, you are right — I also think that that Raila needs to visit Kisumu just one day and paint the town Orange in the next 7 to 10 days. I realise that ODM is strong in Kisumu but we need a well organised rally in Kisumu that will shake the area and encourage the rest of ODM supporters elsewhere
Watching kibaki campaign lately one cannot help but notice that The man looks disoriented. He could not piece together a coherent sentence. I could hear the crowd laughing at him, but he thought they were laughing with him. Someone close to him should have done him a favor asked him to retire instead of walking to the inevitable defeat like a cow to the slaughterhouse

I pray that Kalonzo could even become strong enough to take the second position in the elections. Kibs needs to be in the 3rd position. Let him continue. We in ODM are number one and need a relatively reasonable number 2.

Anyway I liked the Pentagoness in Mombasa(led by Ida). They’re are surely doing a good job. The yesterday’s polls also indicate we’re 10% better off than our next immediate follower (pnu), atleast if they are anything to go by. And this being (most probably) the last opinion poll, I want to only encourage the campain teams to step up fire and let it burn till dawn comes and we’re home and dry. Those youths who were campaining in Nairobi have gone underground or something. Please the match is still on. The undecided may still make a choice.
Above all, let’s pray for Kenya, ODM, and Pentagon.
