  1. Phil says:

Cardinal Njue’s excitement at being promoted by the pope is regrettably making him start his new mandate on a wrong footing. He is inadvertently saying that the catholic church supports Kibaki’s government and therefore the bishops are approving the actions of a corrupt and murderous regime behind the shield of the pulpit. Sadly again, Cardinal Njue is exhibiting dictatorial traits by purporting that his own personal preference is that of the entire catholic church. What hogwash!

This is the most unfortunate utterance to come out of the mouths of our so called religious leaders since the last referendum vote. It is certainly a very hard slap on the face of majority Kenyans including muslims and minority communities who made their position well known to the Yash Pal Ghai committee regarding their preference for devolution.

I have tried to understand the alleged connection between majimbo and tribalism and to be honest, I cannot see any. Why dont these people want to acknowledge that this country belongs to people of different cultures and religions with varied needs? Or that the presidential system has been the main culprit in accelerating hatred and inequality amongst communities in Kenya?

During the referendum vote, we remember with regret clergymen taking sides with the banana side although the ‘official’ church statement was asking its members to vote by conscience. It is an open secret that Cardinal Njue is the most tribalistic of those catholic bishops and he has probably used his new leadership position to arm twist the rest to support an obviously ill advised position.

I am kindly requesting Cardinal Njue and the catholic bishops to keep their unsolicited advise to themselves and allow patriotic Kenyans to freely chart their own destiny.

The ODM must not take this lightly, nor give up its fight for the Kenyan dream. Devolution is an idea who time is overdue. I am urging the party to continue to vigorously educating the public of the difference between majimbo and tribalism.

  2. Eric B says:

What is it that some communities have against Majimbo I must ask? The kind of questions I have been asked lately are coming mainly from one community that appears really apprehensive about Majimbo. I am then left to ask myself why are they so sceptical? How come I do not have an issue on Majimbo with say my friends from the Luhya, Taita, Luo, Kisii, Kalenjin communities?

Let me put it this way. Our brothers and sisters from Central Kenya have nothing to fear from Majimbo and neither do any others from the 42 tribes in Kenya. The way I see it we will continue to live where we live. If anything we will prosper in the regions we live in because most of the resources will be channeled back to the people that generated them in the first place. We can then subsidize our brothers and sisters in less endowed regions with an agreed upon percentage of resources. There is nothing evil about that at all.

Kenya will remain for Kenyans who will finally be lifted out of this endless cycle of poverty and regain the position we out to have been in the first place. If you ask me what position that is, I say a immensley prosperous country with equal opportunities for everyone to live where they want to and benefit from their hard work.

  3. maureen says:

I am shocked that a man of faith can take such a stand at a time kenyans are yarning for abetter governance. It is clear that my Cardinal respect tribalism and I am sure that if it was Kibaki defending federalism he was going to stand up and surpot it.He is a Embu/Meru and there is nothing he can do but to suport one of their own.Now that ODM IS GOING TO WIN AND CATHOLIC for that respect will be among the people who shall have voted ODM in power what will Cardinal say that he spoke for Kikuyus or Ctholics or kenyans,
I am therefore requesting him to take aneutral position despite his ethnic background because of his position in church.Secondly he should try using the word FEDERALISM instead of MAJIMBO may be the term sound funny in kiswahili

  4. Eric B says:

I am likely to agree with the comments expressed in the last two contributions. If you look at todays poll our candidate has slid by two points. I would think that this is not because of his dwindling popularity (which I think is still quite high) but because of the Majimbo thing. If it bothers Kenyans that much perhaps we may want to coin another twem for it or at least tell them that they will get a chance to finally vote on whether they would like it or not.

Let us respect the wishes of all Kenyans and difuse this potentially exposive device. Otherwise come next Friday we will have slid another 3 points. And you can hold me up to that one!

  5. andrew says:

i think we need to go overdrive and educate kenyans on what the majimbo as proposed will entail and the benefits therein. many kenyans are being scared away by fearmongers.

  6. Fred says:

It Doesn’t matter what the cardinal has said coz anyway they supported the govt and failed during the referundum. let waits for Raila Inuguration in late December.

  7. Maru Kapkatet says:

    Your Eminence Cardinal Njue,

Congratulations on being appointed the second Catholic Church’s Cardinal in Kenya. It is my prayer and hope that you fully understand what new role is.

You are responsible for sheperding God’s flock in Kenya and that flock includes Kenyans of all races, gender, and tribe It includes poor and rich Kenyans.

You need, Cardinal Njue, to take a few moments and say a prayer seeking God’s help to enable you serve all Kenyans without favour. The preceding Archbishop of Nairobi could not be appointed the Cardinal because of his divisive stand on issues affecting Kenyans. He openly favoured the Mount Kenya politicians and never uttered a word when other Kenyans were being terrorized by the government.

If you, Cardinal Njue, think that you are safely in the seat of Cardinal of Kenya and can promote tribalism then you are wrong. The Kenyan catholics have every right to petition the Pope to appoint another Cardinal for them. It is not too late to inundate the Vatican with letters and emails of complaint the way we did for the preceding Archbishop of Nairobi.

If, Cardinal Njue, you are choosing to serve as the Cardinal of Mount Kenya, then Kenyans have a right to ask the Pope to appoint a Cardinal for the rest of Kenya. Your are doubling up as the Chairman of the Episcopal Conference, is this right? Can’t you let others also serve in that position.

I am not against you having a stand, even if it is symphatetic one towards your Mount Kenya kin, but I strongly believe that you should not be allowed to mislead Kenyans by peddling rumours.

As a Cardinal and an immediate assistant to the Pope, the successor of Apostle Peter, whom our Lord, Jesus Christ, build his church on, you have to make public pronouncements based on facts – written facts.

there has been a lot of talk on the introduction of Majimboism in Kenya. As a Cardinal and Chairman of the Episcopal Conference, I would have expected you to ask for manifestos of the three major parties – ODM, ODM-K, and PNU and then after studying them fault them wherever you felt was not right.

Instead, you relied on rumours to help your Mount Kenya brethren. This is wrong, Cardinal Njue and I sincerely hope that Kenyan catholics who are offended by your rushed and partial stand will boycott your inauguration. The Bomas Draft recommends devolution of power and managemnt of resources.

Why have you, Cardinal Njue, not spoken against the Bomas Draft ever before. Why are you at this eleventh hour now trying to malign the ODM leadership with an intent to give Kibaki an edge. The Catholic Church in other parts of the world has become an hypocritical morass of pedophiles.

Is Cardinal Njue threatening to add a new dimension to this sickening stain on the catholic church by making it an exclusive church for certain tribes. Cardinal Njue, you will never go wrong, if you are objective and trully serving God.

Before issuing a statement during this delicate political period on any issue, first summon the leadership of the party and put them on the carpet. Ask them questions so that you can make an informed stand on issues.

I wish you could also say something about the way Kibaki has mistreated the Kalenjins.

  8. julius owino says:

It is regrettable to hear an individual with personal and tribal vendetta speaking on behalf of the catholic faithfulls. Our leaders both political and religious should know that Kenyans have woken up and can decide by themselves. John Njue should understand that the rate of poverty, unemplyment, inequality and the gap between the rich and the poor is ubsurd. This situation can only be arrested by a devolved system of goverment.
Majimbo is devolution of resources and power. We Kenyams want economic accoutability and the anwer is MAJIMBO.
Mr. Njue dont you dare cheating milllions of suffering kenyans at the expense of few individuals who want to loot our economy.majimbo will save Kenyans from this monsters

  9. mosh says:

The way in which Bishop Njue announced his opposition to the Majimbo system is alarmist. It might create divisions in a politically charged atmosphere such election time.

But the man has a point. Majimbo does have its drawbacks as does any new system of government – sure, its good to take risks. but I’d rather a CALCULATED RISK.

Check out this link (http://kumekucha.blogspot.com/2007/10/devolution-is-not-same-as-majimbo.html) then let me know your thoughts on this.

  10. Anne says:

As a devout Catholic am amazed that the church’s leadership in Kenya has openly come out to oppose the (majimbo) devolved system of governance proposed by ODM thereby being partisan in their decision.

This is quite strange because during the 2005referendum on the draft constitution, the same leadership left it upon the members to INDIVIDUALLYdecide on how to vote on the draft, yet some issues in
the draft (e.g. same sex marriage and abortion) were against the Catholic Church doctrine.

The Bishops did not give the CHURCH position on theWako Draft. Only Pastor Wilfred Lai and Bishop Margaret Wanjiru publicly voiced their rejection of the wako draft on the account of the above two issues… Where was the then Bishop, now Cardinal Njue and the Catholic Bishops?

Ironically the chapter on devolution (Chapter 14)was retained in Bomas, Wako and Kilifi Drafts of the proposed constitution, so why didn’t they OPPOSE the Wako Draft on account of devolution (majimbo), which
they NOW say chaos in Kenya? Is it because the PNU candidate is a Catholic? What kind of majimbo do they have in mind? The same as that of the one the PNU presidential candidate? What they have is NOT ODM has in mind… On their part (the Cardinal & Bishops) I read political hypocrisy and dishonesty…, a sad state of affairs from leaders who should be guiding flock in matters of eternity.

If they can not be found faithful in earthly temporal matters, who is going to trust them with eternal mattes of faith and spiritual destiny?

    What do you think?

  11. Murage says:

Leave Catholics alone. Focus on the issues that Kenyans care for. Corruption, tribalism, economy, security, employment etc.

ODM has the momentum we need to change the subject of this campaign and stop talking about majimbo. Just make a declaring that majimbo will not be imposed on Kenyans that Kenyans will be asked to choose in a referendum and move to the talking about things we know we can win.

  12. OPADO says:

catholic is a hell bend movement that we can just forgive in jesus name. They
are fond in enslaving men!but this statement is from mungiki regime which
majority of kenyan has rejected once and for all.

  13. OPADO says:

MUNGIKI HAS CHANGED ITS NAME NOW TO BE CATHOLIC AND IT OUT NEGOTIATE BUT WHAT?

  14. Mkenyadamu says:

How shameful and convenient that now the self righteous bishops find it prudent to tell Kenyans what is is good for them yet at the Constitution referendum they asked us to walk in the dark. They need to clean their own house first, everybody knows what they are guilty of and even paid 7billion dollars in compensation. No wonder new age contemporary churches are filling their benches to maximum capacity.

  15. Ahmed says:

Where was Njue when Kenyans were being terrorised by Arturs? Where was Njue when Kenya was being milked dry by Anglo-fleecing? Where was Njue when Kenya was turned into a tribal den by an evil leadership from Mt.Kenya? Where was Njue when insecurity became a nationl pride? where was Njue when mothers were denied easy access to medicine through the rejection of the Health Insurance Bill, yet Kibaki’s armada were stealing the money intended to help these poor women? Where was Njue when Kibaki reneged on every promise he made to Kenyans? Where was Njue when Kibaki refused to give Kenyans the constitution he promised them in 100 days? Where was Njue when Kenyans were being deported to other countries in contravention of every known human consideration? Where was Njue when animosity was being fanned through skewed distribution of resources? Where was Njue when Kenyans living in North Eastern Province (NEP) died of hunger because of lack of water, yet Kibaki’s government gave NEP 4 million for water projects while he gave Nyeri 800 million for th same? Where was Njue when Kibaki turned Kenyan into a Kikuyu/GEMA Jimbo by appointing 40 GEMA DCs out of 79 DCs? Where was Njeu when Kibaki turned Kenyan into Kikuyu jimbo by appointing 3 Kikuyu PCs out of 8? Where was Njue when the divide between the poor and the rich hit its highest under Kibaki’s watch? Where was Njue when Kibaki turned Kenya’s ministries into Kikuyu chambers by appointing Kikuyu men/women into all the parent ministries? Where was Njue when Kibaki thought that Kenyan was his own Jimbo and appointed Finance Minister, his assistant and Permanent Secretary and all financial bodies all Kikuyus? Where was Njue when Kibaki refused to proscute all the corrupt elements? Where was Njue when Kibaki refused to go after the culprits of Father Kaiser Killers? Where was Njue when this and that happened?

The man is a tribal demagogue and has nothing to do with Christ. In fact, the reason he came out was because of his tribal heat and also to lash at His Excellency Raila who promised to respect Kenyan Muslims unlike Kibaki. He is a man of hatred, bigotry and fanatiscm. Evry well meaning Kenyan will vote for Raila willy-nilly. Let those who have ears hear! We don’t give shit to the rants of tribal warlords in the gown of religions. You think Kenyans are toddlers? We have come along way to listen to Rwanda type Catholic priests. Vote Raila, Vote OD, Vote for Kenya, Vote for your child.

  16. Baijo M.Lorowu says:

I doubt all the Catholic faith and archbishops are in this stand together or they were cajoled to do so simply because Kenya now has a cardinla- designate. Njue is simple out to confuse the Catholics and Kenyans who yearn for real change. It is only through devolution that Kenya will leap from the current level of stagnation to development. The centralised governance in Nairobi is not the answer to vision 2030 or whatever? Regions must be involved to play part in governance and equitable resource distribution. I believe and I know the majority of the Catholics want proper change – even in their church administration and the way it is run all the way from the Vatican. Bishop Njue, people want change.

By the way, was Njue speaking as a GEMA, as a Kibaki chief faith campaigner since Kibaki and most of his PNU/PANU/KANU sycophants are catholics or as a frustrated Catholic cardinal elect?

  17. Dan Yogo says:

Friends lets sober up our candidate has lost 2% and that shouldn’t be taken lightly. This i attribute to two issues
    1. The Majimbo issue which unfortunately is understood differently by different people Mr Raila should come out clearly and let people understand his idea of ajimbo
    2. The MOU with muslim community if not brought to the open will cost you enough vote Kenyan have a right to what the MOU is all about.

Lastly ODM pentagon members should desist from making alarming statements like Mr Balala Statement on Majimbo at the Coast

  18. Esmond Mogaka Onsomu says:

There is propaganda going round by some people who claim to have access to the alleged MOU between Hon. Raila Odinga and the Muslim community. They are scaring christians into praying aginst majimbo and the Raila presidency. I know how emotive it can be especially among some of us in evangelical churches. Its extent should be assessed and contained. I also suppose that people like Bishop Githii must have had access to the email and can use ‘spirituality’ to deceive many.
Below is a copy of the email which has been circulated to hundreds of people:
    LET THE TRUTH BE TOLD

THE ODM PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE, RAILA ODINGA, HAS ENTERED INTO A SECRET MOU WITH A SECTION OF KENYAN MUSLIMS.

THESE MUSLIMS, WITH THE SUPPORT OF THEIR BROTHERS FROM THE ARAB WORLD, WILL SUPPORT RAILA’S PRESIDENTIAL BID IN THIS YEAR’S ELECTION, 2007, AND IN 2012 WHEN HE SEEKS RE-ELECTION FOR HIS FINAL TERM AS PRESIDENT. IN RETURN, RAILA HAS PROMISED TO INTRODUCE MAJIMBO ONCE HE GETS TO POWER. AFTER THE INTRODUCTION OF MAJIMBO, THE COAST JIMBO WILL DECIDE THAT THEY WOULD LIKE TO OPERATE AS AN ISLAMIC STATE. THIS WILL THEN BE FOLLOWED BY THE NORTH EASTERN JIMBO WHO WILL ALSO DEMAND TO BE AN ISLAMIC STATE.

THIS, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, WILL SEE THE BEGINNING OF A DETERMINED QUEST TO TURN THE WHOLE OF KENYA INTO AN ISLAMIC STATE AN ACT THAT THE HON.RAILA ODINGA HAS SWORN TO HIS MUSLIM BROTHERS TO SUPPORT TO THE HILT.

COME 2017 AND WITH THE ODINGA PRESIDENCY COMING TO AN END, ! THE
MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING STATES THAT POWER WILL NOW SHIFT TO THE MUSLIMS THROUGH NAJIB BALALA. AS IS EVIDENCED BY THIS MOU THE MUDAVADI VICE PRESIDENCY IS JUST A PLOY TO GET THE LUHYA VOTE AND NOT TO HAND OVER TO MUDAVADI, SOMEONE WHO RAILA DESPISES AS A SPINELESS INDIVIDUAL WHO IS EASILY SWAYED AND HAS NO ABILITY TO RULE.

BALALA STEPPING DOWN FOR RAILA DURING THE ODM PRESIDENTIAL NOMINATIONS IN KASARANI WAS NOT AN ACCIDENT BUT A WELL CALCULATED MOVE BY A GROUP OF PEOPLE INTENT ON IMPOSING THEIR WAY OF LIFE UPON MILLIONS OF UNSUSPECTING KENYANS. WHY ELSE DID RAILA REFER TO ALLAH AS THE GOD OF KENYA ?

THE FREQUENT AND VICIOUS ATTACKS ON KALONZO MUSYOKA BY NAJIB BALALA WERE DRIVEN BY NAJIB’S FEARS THAT A KALONZO PRESIDENCY WOULD DERAIL THEIR WELL LAID OUT PLANS DUE TO KALONZO’S STRONG CHRISTIAN BACKGROUND.

THIS IS WHAT LED NAJIB TO SWEAR THAT HE WOULD NEVER VOTE FOR A NON
REFORMER EVEN IF HE CLINCHED THE ODM PRESIDENTIAL TICKET IN A FAIR
CONTEST. R! AILA’S WEAK RELIGIOUS BACKGROUND, COUPLED WITH HIS OPEN
GREED FOR THE PRESIDENCY, WAS SEEN AS THE EASIEST WAY BY NAJIB AND HIS ISLAM EXTREMISTS TO ACHIEVE THEIR SINISTER GOALS.
NAJIB’S OFTEN REPEATED CRY OF “TUNATAKA MABADILIKO” MEANS EXACTLY THAT.

A CHANGE IN OUR LIVES AS WE KNOW AND BELIEVE, TO LIVING A LIFE ACCORDING TO THEIR WAYS AND BELIEFS. THEIR DETERMINATION TO INSTALL THE BOMAS DRAFT, PRINCIPALLY BECAUSE IT CALL FOR THE ENTRENCHMENT OF THE KADHIS COURTS IN OUR CONSTITUTION, IS
AS STEADFAST AS THEIR BELIEF THAT IT IS HONOURABLE TO DIE FOR ONES
    RELIGION.

ENTER 2018, ENTER NAJIB BALALA. AS IN THE EARLY YEARS OF THE ODINGA
PRESIDENCY, NAJIB’S ENTRY WILL BE MARKED WITH THE CLAMOR, BY THE COAST, FOR SHARIA LAW FOR THEIR JIMBO. THIS WILL BE CLOSELY FOLLOWED BY THE SAME CALLS COMING FROM THE NORTH EASTERN JIMBO . ONCE THESE TWO ARE SAFELY UNDER SHARIA LAW, AGAIN THE QUEST TO TRANSFORM KENYA TO BE UNDER SHARIA LAW WILL BEGIN IN ERNEST. THIS WILL BE NAJIB! BALALA ’S SOLE AIM AS THE 5TH PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF KENYA, AN AIM THAT RAILA HAS STATED IN THE SECRET MOU THAT HE WILL AGAIN DO EVERYTHING IN HIS POWERS TO HELP ACHIEVE.

IT IS INDEED UNFORTUNATE THAT AN INDIVIDUALS HUNGER FOR POWER CAN LEAD HIM TO SELL HIS OWN COUNTRY AND FAITH TO A GROUP OF PEOPLE WHO’S ONLY AIM IS TO TRANSFORM KENYA , AND THE WORLD, INTO AN ISLAMIC STATE UNDER SHARIA LAW AND TO IMPOSE THEIR WILL ON OTHER PEOPLE.

FUTURE GENERATIONS OF KENYANS, OUR CHILDREN INCLUDED, WILL NEVER
FORGIVE OUR GENERATION FOR MAKING DECISIONS THAT WILL EVENTUALLY
RENDER THEM SLAVES OF OTHERS, SIMPLY BECAUSE WE COULD NOT SEE THROUGH THE LIES THAT ARE CURRENTLY BEING FED TO US.

LET US STAND UP AND DEFEND OUR COUNTRY.

MAY THE ALMIGHTY GOD BLESS US ALL, MAY THE ALMIGHTY GOD BLESS OUR
    COUNTRY , KENYA .

  19. Ibrahim says:

I’m a Muslim and I would like to state that the above bunkum and falsehood is a deliberate propaganda perpetuated by the forces of hatred and religious bigotry. Muslims are not in need of any Jimbo to be good Muslims. What they need are roads, schools and hospitals. I’m not perplexed at all because the ilk of Njue and Githii were the same ones who called Islam a “poison” and we the Muslims kept cool because answering in the same would have been churlish and childish. Islam was in Kenya 800 before Christianity was brought and Muslims have been peaceful throughout. Why would we demand any region for Islamic State today? I hope Raila, Ruto, Mudavadi, Margaret Wanjiru and other ODM Christian luminaries will make the point clear. We must paint Njue and Githii as Mt. Kenya religious leaders if they don’t stop this nonsense. Let them tell us what’s wrong with Majimbo. Muslims are not interested in any religious ruling whatsoever. We are happy with what we are and believe in. We are voting for Raila enmasse, let those who have ears hear and those who are not happy with this can drink cyanide and commit suicide.

  20. Nalyanya says:

We do not need PNU and all others who are scared of the change that ODM shall bring to use this subject to distort issues. It is wise for the Pentagon to clearly say that they are for devolution of power and briefly desrcibe that the best way they can to the ignorant voter and also emphasize that this shall be sold to them through a new constitution which they shall have a right to vote for or against. Let not the leaders of ODM say it cannot be avoided, which in a way is like saying the people have to adopt the system when they come to power sending some fear of dictatorship.

PNU is simply using the wrong impression to gain mileage in this case. It is important to stress that the people shall choose and it shall not be forced on them. This flexibility shall twist things around and the main agenda should be a new constitution that shall address this amongst other contentious issues, which the outgoing government completely failed on due to their greed and desire to cling onto power.

Sheerly the harping on majimboism if not clearly and simply explained to remove fear of ethnic division is not going to help ODM so much in the long run.

  21. Joseph Mundhe says:

It is an open fact that Kibaki and his henchmen are misrepresenting to the people the Majimbo our Party is talking about.
Let us have an advertisers portion in the local Dailies a bout Majimbo as given in the Bomas of Kenya draft.Takeout an extract from the Bomas of Kenya Draft
Moi,Kibaki and the beneficiaries of the unitary system will do anything to survive including lying. They have also recruited the Cardinal/Bishops to mislead the common man for them for them
The Cardinal designate Njue and all Religious leaders from one Community have abdicated from their roles as the shepherds of the flock and are busy sacrificing the sheep on the alter of tribalism.
Let our leader Soldier on and mostly dwell on planned development records, security, education etc.But anything to with past corruption and land let it be tackled by other officials of the Party.
Let the candidate now approach things from adifferent perspective.Let him start talking as if already he has won the elections and and embrace communities acknowledging that that even the majority of people from central province needs to rescued from the pangs of poverty and ,unemployment. They also need affair share of the economic cake.
They be told that those surporting the unitary system have benefitted at the expense of the common man.
And that given another five years they want to make sure that common is left is left completely with nothing to put a hand on.
Tell the people that the election is a God given chance to save what was left.
But let Raila not mention the religeous leaders in his address.Let the other Party leaders and members handle that. Not even the Pentagon members.
Let Majimbo not be a life line to PNU it looks like they think it is what can bail them out.
The Meru address was perfect despite the incidences.
Let’s ran a head of them.
Let all religeous leaders support change and pray foy our candidate.

    Joseph Mundhe

  22. tnk says:

It is unfortunate that the people entrusted to review and translate the language of the constitutional reforms, either have not done so, or are lacking in the understanding of the document. Clearly the bomas draft as discussed with various interest groups and agreed on, includes devolution of power seats (executive, admin and economic) so as to give regions much needed ability to control, nurture and grow resources. And this was agreed on by all the major interest groups. ODM has gone ahead and called it what it is “Majimbo” and suddenly there is a lot of noise. These noise makers need to be made to read and understand the Bomas draft and asked why they agreed to it then, and what has changed their minds now.

  23. Christine says:

It is time to change tactics. let the majimbo issue slide no more comment about it. It seems that is what PNU is focusing on wait for ODM to raise an issue then blow it totally out of proportion from the negative side. Apparently it is succeeding as the opinions polls show.

  24. Eric B says:

Indeed let the majimbo debate slide. We have other issues to talk to Kenyans about. What pains me is to see the kind of attitude some Kenyans have for Raila and co. What happened recently in Meru was a debacle and shame for many. Do our borthers there know what the repurcussions of such action can be? Imagine other Kenyans flushing them out of their respective areas and telling them “So you don’t like our candidate, then go home to Meru and stay there” It can cause chaos. If you are reading this and come from the area in question, please let us continue to be brother and sisters.

I am by no means trying to villify the whole community but we have to face the reality that certain people can suffer for the actions of others (you know what I mean here).

On the issue of ODM being supported by Muslim countries to bring in Sharia. That’s a lot of absolute hogwash. Where does this nonsense come from? All the same it needs to be countered because it has been raised. Closer to home, let us also begin to ask Kenyans at rallies “where is PNU getting all its campaign money” and emphasize that we will have to pay it back as Kenyans somehow. That should raise enough questions in my opinion. In any case I am not happy that my taxes, which I have worked for so hard, are being used to campaign for a certain party so lavishly.

  25. ALEX says:

Congrants to Njue for his appointment….perhaps u may even be appointed a cabinet minister (shadow cabinet minister to be exact) I’m a catholic and i hate your stand…you really disgust me….be a kenyan cardinal, not a mount kenya cardinal. Dont begin your reign with such grave mistakes!! Learn to shut up when you are not speaking about the bible. Where were you during the referundum? If the majimbo issue were to be brought in as a referundum, would tell me to vote against it? May be I also oppose majimbo, but leave that to be my decision…apologise to the catholics!!!

  26. Eric B says:

Now that it apprears that ODM cannot run away from the majimbo agenda I would rather they began using the simplified term D&D to explain this whole majimbo issue. Devolution and Decentralization (D&D) is what Kenyans agreed upon in Bomas. I think D&D as a slogan can stick in even most wananchis’ minds. I can’t agree more though that it needs to be explained but explained very simply and in a manner that resonates with most Kenyans.

Take up the challenge ODM! You can’t lose this election when you have us (the people on your side). And don’t let the Meru incidents dampen your spirits. I think that the captians percentage points could well surge a little after that sort moronic behaviour.

  27. Dr. Barack Abonyo says:

The majimbo compaign needs too much potential enrgy before achieving the goal for which it was intended. The appropriate way to package it during Ralleys by the pentagon members is by talking about the constitution. Using the word devolution of power and economics might help the debate. Majimbo as a word has so many negative connotations of the 60s. That being said the Catholic Bishops are well learned folks. They know exactly what the pentagon members are talking about. They have chosen to disregard it for the shake of tribal affiliation. History will definitely jurge them very harshly. They can only take their congregation for granted for only but a brief period of time.
    Barack

  28. Morara says:

I suggest the use of “usambazaji wa mamlaka” instead of the word majimbo. That word “majimbo” has been manipulated by our opponents who have given it negative connotations.

  29. Kanya Thiangi, Baroda, India says:

I think it is too late in the day to take a new direction on Majimbo debate. Let the steam continue. We only need to add fuel to the fire so as to avoid slidding on the polls.
If anything we need to venture into new territories and consolidate our gains so far. I have not seen polls hitting 80% mark in atleast 6 Provinces.
We must hit that target since we know the scheme is for vote rigging with impunity in Central. I won’t be supprised if all of Central is 100% for Kibaki with 159% votes per polling station. That is the plan, I have it from a very senior source. All they are are now working on is to secure the 25% in Five provinces. They are not interested in getting votes outside Central. They are arguing GEMA has enough votes for KIbaki to Win.

LET US WORK TOGETHER TO PUSH RAILA TO 80% in atleast 6 Provinces. Secondly every trick should be employed in Bringing Kalonzo back to ODM or ensuring he campaigns hard and does not withdraw from the race.

  30. jomundhe says:

Church leaders who have been compromised are using the name of the church for their Political ends.
No Bishop or Pastor owns anybody.People who go to Church are followers of Christ.
Let nobody, say Catholics,Anglicans,Seventh Day Adventists are a gainst devolution as given in the draft Contituition of the Bomas of Kenya or basically the majimbo which Raila and the ODM are standing for.
Any Bishop,a cardinal or a pastor supporting the current regime is doing so as an individual.
Church members support the gospel ministry through their tithes and offering and by this according to the word of the Lord,Cardinals,Bishops and Pastors are taken care of.
How will congregations participate in this special Divine responsibilty if they are hungry, and are unable to fend for their families.
If you are a Christian and your child is out of school for fees, you will never see that Cardinal,Bishop,or Pastor coming to bail you out.
There are sons and daughters walking the streets jobless after Parents have spent thousands on their education.
PNU is propagating a system which has failed for a full 43 years.
It is time People bring in change which only the ODM can offer.
Devolution is an idea which Kenyans spent time and Money to give under the Ghai Commission.
Kibaki himself supported it while he was in the opposition.
Let the Church leaders not mislead the members who are individuals with personal needs to take of.
How many Christians from Rift Valley and other parts of the country lost jobs when Kibaki came to power.Or can former President Moi tell the Rift Valley people why they have been sidelined under the current administration and who their replaced.
Kibaki has failed the test of a nationlist which he signed for in 2002 and does not merit another chance.
Kenyans now have a chance to chose the best. A person who has the interest of her 42 communities in at heart.
Let all Kenyans try Raila Odinga.
Moi and Kibaki should know that the time when Kenyans were “Tingisa,Tingisa,Tingisa without reason are long gone and they are serious with their future and resources.

I see the statement being personal whom did he console before making those remarks? First he his suppose pray for a fair and free election.Njue have to know that wakenya wameamuke and know one else will fool us we know what we want and what we don’t want.
It seems most people are limiting there think so much about ‘majimbo’.Came what may we need majimbo,my friends let us not make our selves to cheap.
this is our time youths let us wakeup and make a change.
God bless Raila and ODM followers

  32. marie says:

Njue is completely lost as I would put it. It was not and still is not his job to decide for Kenyans what they want. Am wondering which catholics he sampled because there are so many of us who are for majimbo so can he speak for himself and not for the whole catholic church? And can he leave politics out of the church because he is actually distorting the image of the Catholic church.

  33. NURIA ABDI says:

Am a Muslim lady,i don’t really understand why Njue is confusing the catholic people, where was he when Kenyans voted against the referendum in 2005? Kenyans wholeheartedly voted against the referendum,if now that what he is talking about is tribalism then where was he when Where was Njue when Kibaki turned Kenyan into a Kikuyu/GEMA Jimbo by appointing 40 GEMA DCs out of 79 DCs? Where was Njue when this and that happened?

the time is now and kenyans have decide that its time for change through HON RAILA kenya will change. i really railas promising words unlike others coz he has what it take to the thrid president of kenya RAILA BRAVO we here for you! iwill never forget one of the speeches of RAILA AMOLO ODIGA as he was saying KENYA WILL BE LIKE DUBAI!

preist, pasters and cardial preches about christ and not hatred among the comminuty? shame on NJUE!

BRAVO TO THE PENTAGONS !RAILA AMOLO ODINGA TOSHA.

    LOVE YOU ALL!
    GOD BLESS KENYA

  34. Mahmoud Mohammed says:

Bishop Njue has certainly proved that he is another arrogant Kikuyu in a cassock, and had the guts to prescribe to Kenyans what to do. He must have missed the point that Kenyans process what they are told and we do not need prescriptions from men on the pulpit. Bishop your role on the pulpit should be added supplication to God and invocation of the Holy Spirit to guide our leaders on the right path…Your call sir is to encourage your faithfuls to go on their knees in prayer, penance and fasting during this difficult time for the country and please do not use that pulpit to float the Mt Kenya agenda.

  35. Apoda Nyar Agoro says:

We should not be too hard on Njue. First, you need to understand where the man is coming from.

Kenya has reached a state where the current Kibaki government rewards his kins and cronies with reckless abandon. So when the Pope elevated him to the position of Cardinal, Njue, who is clearly very parochial in his thinking, and whose adult lifew has been concentrated around the Mt. Kenya region, naturally believed it was Kibaki who “promoted” him to be a Cardinal, and so, naturally, he felt obligeg to return the favour by campaigning for PNU.

However I see no alarm in his misguided pronouncement regarding Majimbo. For a long time, the Catholic church saw their followers as a flock of sheep and, like Socrates, it believed that the shephard need not consult the sheep on how best to lead them, even if in the wrong direction. Catholics are nolonger the sheep in sheep skin. Catholics can read the sign of times and not Njue, any other woolf in a cassock or even the Church can fool them anymore. I of course know that the catholics around the mountain will vote PNU, but not as catholics, rather, as GEMA.

  36. Sue says:

Maru Kapkatet I liked you letter.

“If you, Cardinal Njue, think that you are safely in the seat of Cardinal of Kenya and can promote tribalism then you are wrong. The Kenyan catholics have every right to petition the Pope to appoint another Cardinal for them. It is not too late to inundate the Vatican with letters and emails of complaint the way we did for the preceding Archbishop of Nairobi”.

It is amazing that very few Kenyan’s (except those from Mt. Kenya) were excited by Bishop Njue’s appointment as Cardinal. He should pray for God’s forgiveness and lead the worlds largest Church in a true Christian way and not divide this community that has been admired by others for their unity.

It is good for Church leaders to guide their flock but not in a biased manner.

  37. Nick Mayison says:

Forget about Njue. He is just another of the tribal cliques we have in Kenya. PNU will use such people to demonise Majimbo, and especially Raila.

I was surprised by an NGO calling itself INFAD, by their open biassed questions to Raila Odinga that appeared on the Nation Newspaper of 7th November 2007. I wonder why they cant ask Kibaki about Anglo Leasing, Arturs, KTN/Standard raid, all in his backyard. How come they cannot ask Kibaki how he thought Kenyans would trust him yet he betrayed them after electing him in 2002.

Such people and organisations such as Njue and INFAD are actually mouth-pieces of PNU, and they are being trained on what to do, say and how to do, say it.
We will triumph by all means, what we need to do as ODM supporters is to be vigilant of the planned rigging.
You can see how they are now giving roadside goodies yet they claim is not for campaign. Kibaki has ignored his own initiative IPPG pact, yet he want us to trust him with the lives of 30 million Kenyans. When you hear what comes out of the PNU die-hards, you will realise that they are full of hatred and have nothing to offer Kenyans.
We will rise against them by all means.
Kibaki…Rudi Othaya, no more pumbavu, mavi ya kuku.

  38. Atonga S. says:

Comments on the issue of Bishop NJue on the MAJIMBO sistem. Kenya is compost of many religious leaders, but to me the way Njue comes out with his claims I’m a catholic by denomination, he has lost atrack to lead his flock, he is the one creating ethnisitity in the church of cathilic in Kenya I pray for him to reform and other church leaders should help Njue..

  39. Re:MAJIMBOISM (DEVOLUTION)SYSTEM

I wish to comment on CARDINAL NJUE’S centiments reguarding MAJIMBOISM.
He was appointed to represent Catholics all over Kenya and the only way he is able to fullfill the needs of every Catholic in the Country is to make sure that every catholic member is able to go to church. You cannot go to church in Nairobi if you leave in Machakos or Othaya ,he makes sure that in every part of Kenya there is a church or churches and all related resorces and this is Majimboism.

ODM is going to make sure that every Kenyan is served equally and this will happen through Majimboism (Federal)System which all Kenyans are in need of.

  40. When President Kibaki was elected five years ago, instead of fulfilling his promises within those years,he kind of forgot what he was to do.
And now when his term is over he is dishing out Districts without plan as way of bribery. Also he is giving out Title Deeds which he ought to have given long ago and this is questionable.

  41. Let Kenyan vote for ODM “The right choice-The right Party”

  42. otieno ab says:

Thanks to you all ODMER’s for keepin the fireof change burning. Lets all paint the countryside and cities orange on D Day to help distinguish us fromthem looters.PUNU is a house full of ” pharmacists”read drug dealers. The youth should not spare these mamluki types that want to destroy their future. I hope all kenyans of goodwill will be vigilant especially in PUNU strongholds where likelihood of “100 turnout” is real.
